Cherry Lambic Sour Ale
Winner of a gold medal at the 2018 Great American Beer Festival, Transatlantique Kriek begins its life in oaken vessels of Gert Christiaens’ Oud Beersel, a 130-year-old lambic brewery in the Zenne valley of Belgium – home of authentic Lambic beer. After time spent aging in wood, Oud Beersel’s lambic is blended with tart Polish cherries and shipped across the Atlantic to New Belgium. In concert with Oud Beersel’s cherry lambic, or Kriek, we blend an equal portion of golden sour ale matured for 1 – 3 years in our oak vessels called foeders. 50% Sour Golden Ale blended with 50% Traditional Cherry Lambic Ale leads to an intense cherry nose, a sour flash across the palate and a refreshing, mouthwatering finish.

Bottle @ weekly tasting shared by Joes. Incredible dark red to purple color, small off-white head. Smell and taste only lightly cherries, quite a lot of butter unfortunately, lightly sweet. Quite low bodied and virtually no carbonation. Not very good imo. 6

Sampled from bottle @ Leuven Innovation Beer Festival. Nice almost fluorescent red - purple color, lightly pink colored head. Smell and taste lightly sourish, lightly red fruit. Quite bland. Both beers blended are better Unblended imo.

Purple-red color with small white head, good lacing. Cherry, amarena, just a little bit tart. After a while, the cherry stone comes through. No comparison to a proper Oude Kriek. If you wipe your Oude Kriek expectations off your mind, it’s okay. Carbonation is quite low.

650 ml bottle. Pore a clear garnet red with vet light pink head. Aromas of baked cherries and wet malts. Flavors of doughy sweet cherry pie. A thick sweet cherry drink - not much of a Kriek.

Bottle sample @ Leuven Beer Innovation 2015, shared with the RB Belgian crew. Couleur rougeâtre présentant un léger voile, sur un col fin rosé. Arôme met bien en avant le profil griotte sur un petit bouquet biscuité malté, fleuri assez plaisant et un rétro grains lager qui adouci un peu l’attente surette des griottes. Palais est fruité, griotte, suret avec un fruité ressortant très bien. Le tout est balancé par un malté pâle, léger funk qui perd pas mal de la base lambic habituelle. Fleuri perdurant de griotte. Good on promise but short on delivery in terms of offering a full fledged real kriek experience especially if it’s to be blended with a lager base. Enjoyable nonetheless.

Klares rötlich oranges Bier mit einer sehr geringen weißen schaumkrone. Geruch nach reifen roten Früchten, leicht säuerlich. Geschmack nach roten Beeren, leicht säuerlich fruchtig.

Thanks! Sampled 650 ml. bottle @ Leuven Innovation Beer Festival. Deep dark pomegranate kriek appearance with little head. Nose is lactic, watery kriek with touch of ditch water & acidity. Taste is ditch water moldy kriek, watery kriek pits, bad lactic, acidic, touch artificial kriek, lingering ditch water aftertaste & light lemon,.. Watery & little carbonation. Not entirely awful but didn’t sit right with me.
