Originally Nethergate Best Bitter, this is our oldest recipe first created in 1986. It was showcased in the Cambridge Blue as Dew Drop. It has won many awards in its time, most recently the SIBA Gold Medal for Best Bitter 2014. A Chestnut coloured best bitter, biscuit malt dominates the warm, well-rounded roasted background with a wonderful bitter finish.

Cask at the Crosse Keys (JDW), London. Chestnut with a tight cream head; earthy aroma; earthy malt taste, with a thin twiggy bitterness; and a dry finish.

500 ml sampled in 2009. Amber body with a nice beige head. Good, strong malt aroma with light burnt caramel. Weak flavor of malt, caramel and some bitterness. Pretty one-dimensional and uninspired.

50cl bottle from Tesco. Copper with a loose cream head; light, leafy, hop aroma; soft caramel malt flavour; with a reasonable dry bitterness to finish. Not bad for a bottled bitter.

Bottle 500ml. @ home.Clear medium amber colour with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, bread, toasted, caramel, light metalic. Flavour is moderate sweet and light to light moderate bitter with a average to long duration, thin, toffee - caramel. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft, finish feel is light metalic. [20111120]

From cask at Charlies. Pours clear and golden orange with a small white head. Aroma is malty and slight fruity. Fruity flavoured, roasted malty, bitter and light citric. Dry and bitter finish. Clean and crisp.
