Amberfarge klar med fingerhøyt skum. Honning og karamellukt. Søt, men Ikke for søt smak. Lett bitter avslutning. Medium kullsyre. Kort. Søt i etterkant.

On tap at Bierhaus, Stockholm. Clear amber with a medium head. Quite sweet with malt, fruit, caramel and some light notes of vegetables. Drinkable but a bit boring to be honest.

Flasche. - Rotgold, klar; kurzlebiger beigefarbener Schaum.

Tasted as Hövels Original Bitterbier, its former name. A kind of self-contained amber beer from Dortmund, top-fermented, since 1893; I guess this represents the style Schönfeld referred to as "Rheinland Bitterbier" in the early 20th century, but I have no knowledge of any other beers in this style, which I presume is all but extinct now except for this one (?). In any case wheat malts are used here and it is top-fermented. Irregular, creamy, yellowish white, stable head, deep and clear amber colour. Aroma of pale malts, caramel, some wheats, slightly woody and smoky accents, apricot, flowery hops. Soft malty taste, lightly sweetish, bit wheaty, bit metallic, then drying out and becoming a bit woody, with dry but only mildly bitterish finish - needless to say, I had expected more bitter in view of its name, so it is not a bad thing they left out the "Bitterbier" meanwhile.

At a restaurant. Clear, dark brownish amber with a medium large, fluffy, slowly diminishing, white head. Nice, malty aroma of nuts and toffee with minimally metallic hints. Sweetish taste of nuts and toffee, followed by a short, slightly bitter and minimally metallic finish. Medium body, slightly creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Very pleasant, harmonic and balanced beer. One of the best you can get at the local restaurants.

On tap at pub in Berlin. Has a clear amber colour with a medium, light beige head. Light aroma of leather, caramel, sweet malt and some cinnamon. The flavour is slightly fruity with more caramel, wood, raisins and some alcohol. Slick mouth feel, and the bitterness is light. An okay ale but rather light and boring.

Bottle sample at a tasting at the Beer & Beyond shop. Thanks troubles. Clear very deep golden-copper color with a white head. Aroma of mild grassy hops, light graininess and a bit of bready malt. Flavor has some sweetish bready malt and a bitterish finish with some noble hops. Medium-bodied. Decent and easy-drinking.
