Amber with a lasting white head. Slightly grainy malt aroma with toffee notes. Sweet and malty flavour, rather thin.

Cask, full pint, handpulled at Wetherspoons The Flying Horse. Cellar cold, according to the pump clip. Amber in body colour, quite clear, and with a tiny, beige head. Withered floral aroma. The taste gave some of the same withered impression with moments of caramel malts, dry hops and a touch of spices. Rounded bitterness. Drinkable, but lacking freshness and far from being in its best condition (at Gatwick airport, 08.08.2009).

Cask@The Knights Templar. Copper colour, mediumsized white foamy head, some lace. Caramel malts, wood and some bready notes. Flavour is wood, some grass and mildly bready and earthy as well.

(Cask@The Kinights Templar). Clear amber color, small beige creamy head. Toffeish, diacetylic aroma. Light palate. Nutty hoppyness, some toffee. Quite long aftertaste.

Cask, Bridge Inn, Middleton-in-Teesdale, Co Durham. Not expecting too much from this as I’m not a fan of Greene King at all, but served in good nick this wasn’t too much of a calamity. Dark amber with a medium off white head. Some fruitiness in the flavour which was caramel malt based and slightly thin. Clean and fresh though, and thus passable.

[Cask at The William Robert Loosley, High Wycombe, 1/3/2009] 5/3/5/3/12 I hated the bottled Ruddles County I had, and was therefore relkuctant to try this. However, the only real ales available in this ’Spoons were this or Abbot (sort it out Mr Martin!), so reluctantly tried this. Pours a slightly hazy amber-straw colour with a thin, foamy white head. Slight flavour of malt, fruit and caramel. Little bitterness, but smooth and easy-to-drink. A pleasant enough but instantly forgettable session bitter. [Re-rate, cask at the William Robert Loosley (JDW), 13/9/2010] 5/3/4/2/8 Thin and watery. A little malt, a little caramel and a lingering dusty hop bitterness. Archetypal "boring brown bitter".

Cask at the Hope Tap (JDW), Reading. Amber with a thin loose off-white head; faint caramel aroma; thin and watery with a sweet biscuity malt flavour, and a stale bitterness to finish. Disappointing.

(Cask at Priory Arms, Stockwell, London, 25 April 2008) Amber colour with frothy, white head. Malty, nutty nose with notes of toffee, caramel and hints of sulphur. Malty, nutty taste with toffee and slightly dusty, earthy hops in the finish. Fairly boring bitter, actually.
