Farmstead® Wheat Ale Aged in Oak Puncheons

This version of Florence, our Belgian-inspred Farmstead® ale, was aged for many months in our puncheons—not quite Florence, not quite Flora, but magical all the same. Unfiltered and naturally carbonated.

375 bottled Feb 2, 2020, drunk Aug 12, 2023. Clear, pale brass. Coppery. White head to cover. Nose is tart, wheat-forward with clean wine and wood. Light lactic. Big mineral. Rustic, so dry very light bodied, especially for all the wheat. But with warming and breathing it gains some oomph. Clean. Lemon, wood, balsam, nuts and wheat. Interesting and different.

Bottle. Pours clear yellow, small white head decent lacing. Aroma of funk, white grape, oak, lemon, bugs. Flavor is medium tart, light plus funk. Light body. Agree with previous reviewer; that the increased sourness is a distractor. Original Florence is better.

750 ml bottle, bottled May 2017, shared by Werckmeister, thanks! Golden, clear body, with a medium, fluffy, yellowish head. Lovely aroma of barnyard, wood, citrus, white grapes, some apricot, some apple, subtle vanilla. Tastes quite similar, while with more vinegar. Medium, slick mouthfeel, with a lively carbonation. Finishes medium acidic, dry, wooden, citric, vinous, fruity, with apple zest, some vinegar. Tasty! Beautiful, complex nose, while the taste is straighter and more acidic. Outstanding stuff as always from HF. Score: 9 / 4 / 8 / 4 / 16
