Pours as motor oil, viscosity and looks. Don't search for a head, even poured from 3 glass distance. End of bottle scary UFO's - more by sound than visual. Roast, burnt, alcoholheat already in the nose. Roasted nuts, black pudding (yes!), fusels. Roast, orangezeste, dark malts and -syrup... and an ashy, almost peaty finish - as the peat ashes the morning after. Full bodied, fiery, viscous, voluptuous. Undercarbonated. Aftertaste rounds it beautifully with incense. Serious stuff, one can only admire.

33cl bottle. A black beer with a beige lacing. Aroma of mid sweet dark roasted malt, vanilla, bourbon barrel. Taste of sweet and strong dark roasted malt, bourbon barrel, liquorice, ash. Nice!

Bottle thanks to Kubo. Full body, med-light carbonation. Loads of dark malty flavours, cocoa, chocolate, molasses. Very rich, dark feeling, tasty. ABV hidden well. Very good sipping beer.

Barrel aged imperial stout by Bevog – and the first beer I had in 2022, on New Year’s Eve. Creamy but opening, pale greyish beige, small-bubbled, eventually dissolving head on a black beer with thin mahogany edges. Strong and beguiling bouquet of ‘fondant’ chocolate but also a touch of white chocolate somewhere, wet oak wood and its ‘vanilla’, walnut liqueur, almond, marshmallows, cappuccino, soy sauce, old furniture, gingerbread, charred horse steak, bourbon, ground hazelnuts. Sweet onset though not cloying and certainly not ‘pastry’, rather a mixture of candied figs and dried dates with a bit of soy sauce-like umami subtly sprinkled on top; soft carb, thick and oily, almost syrupy but still supple body. Layers of caramel, walnut, black chocolate, lightly toasted brown bread and toffee ensue, with a clear coffee-like roasted bitterness in the tail, its dryish effect accentuates by a colourful tannic woodiness, bourbon-like warmth from the alcohol (though nowhere too intrusive) and a peppery hop bitter dash in the background; long, warming finish, complex with added aspects of rum, coconut, marzipan and burnt blackcurrants. Smoothly yet deeply textured, utterly well-balanced old school U.S. style ‘impy’ with a distinct character – absolutely wonderful, beats even Bevog’s already formidable barrel aged barleywines for me. What a great beer to kick off a new year of tasting and sampling!

Cork-top bottle, 0.33l. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel, chocolate, vanilla and whiskey. Pours pitch black color with thin quickly diminishing light brown head. Taste starts with sweet and rich roasted malt and milk chocolate, follows by hazelnuts, peat and whiskey, mouthfeel is smooth and warm, while finish is mild bitter.
