We’re not saying you should worship what’s inside the barrel…

but there’s a certain righteousness about a beer made with three types of rye malts and then smoothed out in a blend of rye whiskey and bourbon barrels. The journey spans months, but the results are undeniable—a RIGHTEOUS ale indeed.

After years of tinkering with small batch, we went all in on this barrel fleet. Hundreds of Woodforde Reserve Rye barrels from and Widow Jane Bourbon barrels house the precious liquid that makes up Sixpoint’s second ever network wide barrel-aged release.

Righteous is housed in both Bourbon and Rye barrels for a layered and complex beer with flavors ranging from spicy rye character to maple to vanilla.

Got in a trade with The-Adjunct-Hippie. 12 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 3/7/2018. Pours moderately hazy/cloudy deep orange/copper/amber color with a 1 finger fairly dense and rocky light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice dense spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big caramel, brown sugar, raisin, plum, fig, cherry, date, apricot, red apple, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, spicy rye whiskey, toasted oak, biscuit, and brown bread/crust; with lighter notes of roast, oak char, citrus peel/zest, herbal, floral, grass, pepper, pine, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/rye/bready malts, bourbon/rye barrels; light-moderate citrus/earthy hops, and fruity yeast notes; with great strength. Taste of big caramel, brown sugar, raisin, plum, fig, cherry, date, apricot, red apple, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, spicy rye whiskey, toasted oak, biscuit, and brown bread/crust; with lighter notes of roast, oak char, citrus peel/zest, herbal, floral, grass, pepper, pine, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, grassy bitterness; and bourbon, rye whiskey, oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of caramel, brown sugar, dark fruit, red apple, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, spicy rye whiskey, toasted oak, biscuit, brown bread/crust, light roast/char, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, grass, pepper, pine, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/rye/bready malts, bourbon/rye barrels; light-moderate citrus/earthy hops, and fruity yeast flavors; with a great malt/bitterness and rye/whiskey/oak spiciness balance; with no cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering bitterness and rye/whiskey/oak spiciness after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/bready/sticky/tannic, and lightly slick balanced mouthfeel that is great. Mild increasing warmth of 10.5%, with no lingering barrel booze after the finish. Overall this is an awesome barrel aged hoppy imperial rye. All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/rye/bready malts, bourbon/rye barrels; light-moderate citrus/earthy hops, and fruity yeast flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to drink for the ABV, with the mellowly bitter/spicy/tannic/drying finish. Awesome balance between rich malts and bourbon/rye barrel presence/integration; with solid citrus/earthy hop presence, and fruity yeast character. Mild residual sweetness with lingering dryness. A really enjoyable offering. Very impressive for basically being a BA Rye IPA. Did not prefer it over the base beer, but will have to revisit it soon.

Can. Hazy brown with lace. Spicy, grainy nose, fruity, vanilla, with creamy, spicy rye and bourbon. Light, crisp, nice. Hides the alcohol very well and much more interesting than the regular version.

Six point Righteous Ale BA Rye Ale 10.5% Malty caramel and sharp rye aroma, purplish orange color with wispy beige foam. The taste is a dark cacao powder caramel with a medium body and dry finish with tannic oaky Barrel. Nice maple in the aftertaste. Tasty and it hides the ABV well.

Tap at the Beer Temple, Amsterdam. Poured a murky medium amber with a mostly lasting frothy white head. The aroma is oaky boozy, light fruity, dry hop. The flavour is moderate sweet with a smooth rich, buttery fruity oaky, dry hop palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Delicious barrel-aged brew, a love poem to all things rye. Lovely caramel, black cherry, and vanilla notes lead to a spicy, dry finish soaked in bourbon and oak. Rye whiskey lingers on the palate, as does a modest boozy heat. Straight rye nose, while the pour comes out a pretty copper-red with a brief white head and modest lacing. Full-bodied and greasy, with just enough alcohol kick to make things proper. One tasty-ass rye-bomb.

On tap at Engine Room, pours a deep dark amber with a small off-white head. Aroma is loaded with rye and bourbon barrel character, especially the bourbon, with bready and caramel malt. Flavour is intense, with loads of bourbon upfront, followed by caramel and bready malt. Love the barrel character here. Not a huge depth but the notes it hits are very pleasant. Very nicely done.
