Named after the rare and elusive bird which migrates to Orkney to breed. One such bird landed in front of the brewery, so we decided to honour our new feathered friend, with a brew dedicated to its endeavour.
Corncrake is an irresistible golden ale. New world hops compliment the biscuity pale malt, to provide a thirst-quenching ale, with fruit flavours of lemon, apricot and peach.
Hops: Columbus, Styrian Goldings
Malts: Pale, Crystal, Malted Wheat

Bottle from Sainsburys. Slightly hazy, very light yellow beer. Bit lively, thin white head. Zesty, grassy hop smell. Flavour is... slightly disappointing. Tangy, lemony taste but it disippates into an almost watery nothingness quite quickly and only leaves a light, bitter aftertaste. It’s not bad by any means. It tastes nice but it’s disappointing that the flavour doesn’t last longer than it does.

Handpull cask at the Cavens Arms, Dumfries. Mid-gold with a decent white head. Soft citrus aroma, very one-dimensional. I really loved the taste: savoury and herbal, with a note of astringency and the very hint of sweetness around the edges. Dry finish. Very impressive: a simple recipe which exhibits the brewers’ originality and prowess.

0.5l bottle. This is a blurry golden-ish looking one, lots and lots of unfiltered particles floating about and it has a medium sized really bubbly just off-white head with a nice retention. It's really fruity - sweet on the nose! Like smelling a papaya really. Zesty fruitiness, lots of both yeasty esters and diacetyl, tropical juices that has been standing in the sun and fermented. Blood oranges and it's quite floral as well. A strange strange super fruity aroma. It tastes alright. Not overwhelming on the fruitiness, but it still has those sweet estry zesty tones. In the mouth it feels this oily, surprisingly considering the abv, and it's just below average on the carbonation. Low bitterness, but it has a grassy thing compensating a bit for all the sweetness. There is also a big amount of buttery diacetyl in this, Minerallish finish and aftertaste. Quite easy to drink, but way to heavy on the butter. 12.02.2014

50cl bottle from a Tesco’s store in Edinburgh. Pale straw with a white head; citrus aroma, soft citrus taste; and a biscuit body. A straightforward golden ale.

Bottle. Pours light hazy light yellow with a finger thick creamy head. Aroma is citrusy hops, with oranges, grass as well as some grain. Full body with soft carbonation. Flavour is bitter with hoppy lemon peel.

Flaske delt med importør Willy, på brygga: farge og skum som pils, smaker dog litt bitrere og tørrere. OK tørstedrikk for 4,1 men engihet om at dette på ingen måte var minneverdig, så tørste var vi ikke.

Cask at the Grill, alongside a wee dram. It pours golden amber with a medium white head. The nose is light toast, creamy, dough, pear drops, icing sugar and catdboard. The taste is floral, citrus peel, light dough, toast and grain with a dry finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Smooth and quaffable. Pretty alright.
