Inspired by a mutual love of chocolate oranges, 'Til the Night Closes In is an imperial milk stout we created with our good friends at Jester King. We wanted something dark and rich accented by the brightness of fresh citrus, so Jeff and Averie brought up a bunch of dried tangerines and fresh satsuma oranges from central Texas to punch up the Mandarina Bavaria hops in the whirlpool. After fermentation we steeped the beer on cacao nibs, Madagascar vanilla beans, and fresh Valencia orange peel. The result is smooth and sweet with a tart pop of citrus. Enjoy!

Sweet stout by Perennial, at Gollem, thanks Filip for sharing. Some last tiny beige-ish bubbles cling to the edge here and there but otherwise the head was already completely gone when I tasted it; blackish robe with hazy burgundy hue. Rich aroma very reminiscent of brown rum or even Bacardi mixed with cola, coffee liqueur, kahlua, walnut oil, melting chocolate, pronounced orange peel, brandy, vanilla beans, Mandarine Napoléon. Sweet and sourish onset, fresh fig with again a strong orange peel side effect adding colour and freshness, very soft (if not flat) carb, thick hazelnutty and caramelly malt body, sweet indeed but with a dim sourishness underneath providing balance. Finishes rich but very boozy and heating as well, very rum-like with orange liqueur- and brandy-like notes as well, yet avoiding unpleasant astringency; meanwhile the rich, thick, sweet maltiness lingers, deeply seeped in this bright orange peel element, which keeps brightening things up. As usual with these hefty Perennials, a great, aromatic, deep and rich beer, even if the rum-like nose is a bit much for me personally.

Pours black, small tanned head. Smell is rather weak, bit roasty, tad sweet. Taste is tad liquorice, sweet, dark chocolate. The orange gives a weird side taste. Not my thing, but not as bad as the scores resemble.
