With a delicate grassy and earthy hop aroma, the refreshing bitterness of this beer is balanced by the subtle malt flavours which make for an extremely drinkable pint that has a dry finish and lasting after taste.

Cask, on gravity at the Avon Valley Beer festival, 4/6/2015. Chestnut in colour, with a slight, off-white, head. Sweetish malts, some house yeast character, leafy hops and a decently bitter finish. Fine.

On cask @ the brewery tap. Smooth mild beginning. Nice fresh malty ale body, fresh with mild earthy hops. Smooth mild slightly bitter floral aftertaste with a very nice smooth ale malty aroma.

Cask @ White Hart, Crawley. Orange amber, negligible head/lacing. Scent is woody, musty and sulphurous. Bitter and sour notes dominate the taste. Grows on you, but perhaps a beer to respect but not necessarily to love.

Cask at the White Swan, Arundel. Chestnut brown with a foamy white head; malty aroma; earthy malt taste with a twiggy bitterness. This is actually a palatable country bitter, but clearly doesn’t fit with the modern meaning of IPA.

275ml botte, thanks Pierre T. BB 03/2016.

Bottle from the brewery. It pours clear amber with a small white head. The nose is soft, toasty grain, brown bread, stone fruit and earth. The taste is smooth, soft, mellow, toasty grain, earth, grassy and a touch of citrus rind with a short, dry finish. Light body and fine carbonation. Not bad really, just not very much to it. You could chug a lot for sure.

Cask at Lord Nelson, Brighton. It pours clear brown with a small white head. The nose is earth, wood, light caramel and brown bread. The taste is wood, twig, dull bitterness, leather, cereal and toast with a dry finish. Light body and soft, massaging carbonation. Bland and boring bitter....
