Russian Imperial Stout
We brewed this imperial stout to be big, bold and strong, like a bear-hugging Russian wrestler. A thick body using oats and lactose is complimented by plenty of complex chocolate, cocoa, and caramel undertones, before finishing on a balanced roasty note.

On tap at Funky Buddha, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out low roast, with plenty of lactose snowing and a heart oat backbone. Flavour is robust, with medium roasted malt, plenty of lactose, and light oats. Creamy and silky, balanced well. Excellent.

650ml bottle (thx, John P.!) shared at Brian’s. Pours an almost black with a weak beige head. Aroma is dry berries, roasted malt, some candies and leather notes. Similar taste. Moderate bitterness. Very good.

Bottle shared @ home. Dark brown/black colour, creamy brown foam. Nose of coffee, roasted malts, syrup, cocoa. Sweet taste with enough roasty bitterness and hoppiness. Good but not the best imperial stout.

Bottle 22fl.oz. @ Craig’s House - Edinburgh. [ As Funky Buddha Nikolai Vorlauf Russian Imperial Stout ].Clear dark brown color with a small to average, frothy and open, good lacing, mostly lasting to diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, burnt, dark malt. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, prunes, dark malt, roasted, chocolate. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20160319] 7-4-8-3-15

Bottled@AIH66 Beer Session. Black colour, mediumsized brown head. Aroma is liquorice, alcohol, some roasted notes, mild chocolate, toffee and some slight spicy notes. Flavour is liquorice, alcohol, chocolate, mild lactic notes as well as some toffee, roasted malts and mild ripe fruits. Nice chocolaty, chocolaty and roasted aftertaste to it. Very pleasant.
