Harvey’s Brewery Wild Hop is ‘beautifully balanced, but a bit on the wild side’!

Brewed with the aptly named ‘Sussex Hop’ – originally discovered growing wild in a hedgerow in Sussex, but now cultivated as a variety in its own right. It is supplemented with Cascade hops grown in the UK.

Cask at the Bricklayers Arms, Chipstead, Kent. Pours golden with a small white head. Aroma of floral hop, citrus, malt and grass. Medium sweetness, moderate bitterness. Light to moderate body, slight oily and watery texture, soft carbonation. Decent hoppy ale.

Tried at the Victoria, Lincoln. Golden colour with a big white head. Malty fruit aroma light enjoyable sweet to light bitter taste.

Cask at the Royal Oak. Orange, clear, glowing with a bubbly head. Nose is a bit of orange, some caramel, herbs. Lemony, orange flavor, grassy and earthy. Clean but a bit spicy with a touch of caramel and bread.

Bottle from the Harvey’s online thingy. Appearance - dark with a decent head. Nose - green herb, orange pith. Taste - more of the same. Palate - close to medium bodied with a creamy texture Overall - solid if not amazing.

Bottle at ash’s. Pours clear golden, nose is vegetables, hay, toffee, astringent, taste is dry, vegetables, toffee, sweet.

Cask (handpump) @ GBBF 2013, Great British Beer Festival, London Olympia, Hammersmith Road, London, England W14 8UX. [ As Harveys Sussex Wild Hop ].Clear medium yellow color with a small, fizzy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, pale malt, fruity, moderate hoppy. Flavor is moderate sweet and light moderate bitter with a average to long duration, flowers, fruity, malty. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is flat to soft. [20130814]

Cask at GBBF ’14, day 5, 16/08/14. Clear light golden with a decent white covering. Nose is light citric, Harveys yeast strain, straw, lemon rind, touch bretty. Taste comprises earthy notes, less of the brett resonance, light Burton snatch, vanilla, citric rind, hay. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, semi drying close with light bitterness. Ok lightly funked GB.

Clear yellow/golden with a medium sized white head, some lacing. Aroma of malts, grains and honey. Taste is fruity, grainy with a touch of honey

Cask at 2014 GBBF. Saturday dregs tick and run. Aroma is chorizo, Brett, straw, meaty. Clear golden coloured pour with a loose white head. Flavour is earthy straw, light Brett, grainy. Palate is light, straw tanin, . lingering earthy straw a berry.
