Pick Your Own begins as a sour red ale that’s aged in an oak foudre with Lactobacillus and Pediococcus for two years. After adding fresh, local raspberries, cherries, strawberries, and blueberries, we age it for an additional three months. The finished beer is a vibrant, ruby red with an aroma of ripe berries and vanilla. As you might expect, berries fill the flavor. Pick Your Own finishes dry with notes of bread crust and a lingering, tart juiciness.

37.5CL from HB. HUGE cork pop on this one. maroon red. no head. Smells like cherry juice with just a hint of raspberry. very juicy with tartness of fresh fruits. this is fantastic. It's borderline too sour and tannic but only slightly. it's incredibly well balanced. Lingering cherry juice. Very tasty!

Some raspberry, though a little watery overall. Not as good as many Allagash beers. Pours ruby red with good head and lacing. Tangy finish. Tap at Snally.

Draft at Snallygaster 2017. Poured a slightly ruby red color with a small white head. Aroma was nice tart cherries. Flavor had plenty of cherry skin notes. Light tartness. Really nice.

375mL bottled 12/21/15, shared by Nelson on 6/25/16.
Deep, magenta-burgundy-violet body is obviously well-fruited and shows a good clarity and violet-flecked beige head atop with moderate to moderately strong retention.
I love Allagash; there’s very little not to love, though they don’t generally make the very top of my lists for sours. Not that their sours aren’t great; they are and almost always demonstrate a very consistently high quality, which is no easy task. But the one thing that often prevents them from really getting to that very upper tier, for me, is the funk. They almost always have great/balanced barrel character, good sourness, great fruit additions/usages and innovative ideas, but they so rarely are really deeply funky. Point of my rambling: Pick Your Own has it all AND brings the funk. Sulfury barnyard qualities abound but don’t get carried away, as lusciously bright, lively berries add multiple layers of aromatics. You truly can appreciate that it’s not just one type of fruit here. Malt behind it is light but ample, adding a touch of biscuit and very light, dry caramel. Tons of funk and moderate lactic character. Reminds me a great deal of Flora BBR and it’s right up there with that one as far as quality, in my book.
Tart and sour at times acids are pretty nicely balanced by soft, well-attenuated malts lending honey-caramel and biscuit. Pretty low on the raspberry element, which, in my mind, is a very domineering flavor; glad it’s the lightest here. Soft funky barnyard notes, elegant brett and lactic acids and just tons of berry bliss complexity on the end. Tight carbonation, no alcohol or flaw and low on the actual barrel character. I think I like the yeast/bacteria profile just a touch more in Flora BBR and that one may be just a shade drier, but I’d absolutely love to try them side-by-side to really see.

Bottle @ Steve_0 during my 10k tick fest. Thanks Lukaduke! Pours a dark reddish purple appearance with a pink head. The aroma is full of raspberries, some cheese, oak, and lemon. Juicy and bright fruit. Some funk. Vanilla. Mild wood. Flavor is all raspberry. Hard to describe anything else. This is great but not as good as Coolship Red.
