Sierra Nevada Torpedo Ale is a big American IPA; bold, assertive and full of flavor and aromas highlighting the complex citrus, pine and herbal character of whole-cone American hops. Our obsession with harnessing huge hop flavor led to the development of what we call the hop torpedo, a revolutionary method of dry-hopping designed, built, and debuted here at the brewery. Our torpedo is a sleek, stainless-steel piece of hardware that delivers more pure hop aroma than any method of dry-hopping we’ve ever seen.

Rerate in Japan, Jun 2015. Copper coloured. Taste is resinous, bit of caramel, quite fruity, bit of sweetness. After first hoppy hit, it becomes quite subdued, much more malty. Bitterness at the finish. It's nice enough, but not so exciting. Original rating, Aug 2011: From keg at Euston Tap. Golden yellow with a medium head. Aroma is peach, lemon sherbert. Bit of mango maybe. Taste is slightly hoppy, bit spiky. Medium bodied with low carbonation. Very drinkable, but slightly disappointing.

Shared with Maarten, thanks for providing the bottle. Best before: 4/2019. Pours hazy dark orange with a slowly thinning, unstable, foamy, off-white head. Aroma of ripe orange & mango, biscuit, pink grapefruit, dark honey, overripe peach. Taste is light to medium fruity sweet, notes of mango, peach & orange wrapped in a biscuity & bready malty character; quickly turning bitter with grapefruit peel, pine, herbs & pepper, a bit nutty even. Dry, piney-resinous hoppy finish, lingering honeyish malt, bitter fruit, herbs & faintly warming gin-like alcohol. Medium body, slick-creamy texture, fizzy carbonation. Too bad it was past its prime but it still offers a nice resinous & spicy touch to a classic IPA as base beer.

3 month old pint can A: Clear rich dark amber pour with 1 of thick tan head retaining well. S: Toffee, spruce or pine and a hint of orange peel. T: Very strong piney hops backed by dry woody notes. Citrus and caramel round out the sip, finishing with some alcohol. M: Crisp carbonation lightens up the medium full body. Clean chalky finish. O: Good but not something I could drink regularly. For something similar, I'd prefer a Two Hearted.

Bottle. Orange amber color. Sharp citrusaroma with oily hops. Oily earthy hopbitter flavor with ripe melon and grapefruit. Long oily hopbitter aftertaste. Slightly perfumed and lacking in balance.

Bottle at Kjul Strand. Pours hazy amber with off-white head. Aroma of caramel, resin, pine needles, notes of tropical fruits. Tastes sweet and bitter. Medium bodied, bitter finish. Tasted ca. 3.5 months before bbd, not too fresh, in other words.
