This winter wheat beer uses dark malting to provide subtle toasty notes. We then single-hop and dry-hop this beer with Citra hops from our friend Brad’s farm. Interesting pineapple notes from the Citra hop provide a stark contrast to the toasty notes in the body. An engaging and sessionable Winter Seasonal.

12oz bottle-pours a foamy light tan head with copper color. Aroma is fresh mint leaves. Taste is tea-herbal-mint hop, secondary medium malt-caramel/roasty.

Twist of bottle. Looks like iced tea. Smell is a little metallic. Decent co2. Taste seems harsher than 5%. Malty thru & thru. Hops in the background and leaves a medium bittter finsh.

Pours bright deep amber into a Sam glass. Off-white head sickens and recedes to mottle surface. Pineapple aromas. Sharp, stale tropical fruits upfront turning to toasted sourdough in the lasting finish.

Bottle from Whole Foods. Pours darkly ruddy with a foamy off-white head. Pineapple? Maybe. And some roast malt. Near full body. Flavor is roast malt with a lot of hop flavor. Nicely bittingly bitter. This is dang flavorful stuff. Pineapple? Yeah, maybe, probably, ok, they say it is. Why not?

Key Food, Brooklyn single ($2): Pours an amber color with a creamy looking beige head. Aroma is of roasted malts and some hops (akin to some APAs I’ve had). From the taste, I get the hops right up front and they are quite pleasant (I suppose they are the citra hops). Some fruity flavors in there as well. I would not have been able to tell that this is a wheat... A very pleasant surprise from Peak. I usually think they are not that great.
