Our piney, dank, and mind-bending East Coast IPA is a huge part of Blue Point's history. As Long Island's original IPA, it is often the first IPA of many local drinkers who pass the love for this crushable IPA from generation to generation.
Hoptical Illusion's malt-forward body and piney hop kick have landed it 4 notable awards, including a GABF medal.

Location: I've had this one on tap and out of the bottle quite a few times. I've noticed quite a few places in Manhattan where this is the only IPA they have on tap, so if I'm out to dinner or grabbing a drink at one of those places, and I want an IPA, this is the one I get.
Overall Impression: This a pretty decent IPA, it's just not hoppy or flavorful enough to get much higher of a score then this, but it is a drinkable beer.

12 ounce bottle from Whole Foods Market, Short Pump, VA. Pours a clear light copper color with a medium head. Fair head retention and lacing. Faint aroma of caramel and resiny hops. Taste is very hoppy... citrus, pine, resin. Caramel malts as well. Medium bodied. Decent.

Fairly strong and even mixture of citrus and pine smelling hops on the nose. Aroma of caramel is also prevalent. Slightly hazy golden color medium white head. Medium body. Outstanding cantaloupe, apples, and pine needle flavor. Honey and apple core finish. Wow! Excellently balanced. Good complexity. Unique. There is a moderate metallic taste that bears mentioning, but other than that this is a delight.

On tap at Capital Ale House - Downtown on 05/05/2009. Very clear amber body with a medium frothy off-white head. Sweet floral and citrus hop aroma with some faint suguary caramel in the background. Sweet citrus and piney hop flavor with some caramel, somewhat cloying. Medium body with moderate carbonation. This would have been much better if the lovely hop aroma had followed into the flavor.

Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Pours with a clear golden body and a wispy white head. Aroma of orange and orange zest, and a bit of grassy-ness. Taste is mainly citrus hops and fragrance with light malt. Lively carbonation.

Nice copper/orange coloured body with a small white head. Aroma of fresh hops, good malt, apricots and oranges. Medium-bodied; Strong hoppy flavour that lasts for quite a while with a good spicey finish and a malty taste throughout. Aftertaste shows hops and a good malt backbone. Overall, more of a stronger APA, but a decent beer overall. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased at Oliver’s Beverages in Albany, New York at the Eastern Shore of Virginia on 04-February-2006.

Bottle: Clear golden pour with a smaller white head. Nose is citrus and caramel with a nice balance and decent intensity. Taste is up front and flavorful with sweetness and caramel. Lingering floral hops, but a bit grassey. Still, nice. Thanks Matt.
