Well stored bottle, tasted November 2022. Parallel tasting of Rain Shadow, Highland and Arran. Pitch black body under a small, fast disappearing beige head. Aroma is soft and mild, still complex and rich with dark malt, coffee, dark chocolate, mild peat, some smoke and whisky. Taste is super smooth, medium sweet dark malt, dark chokolate, coffee, smoke, light peat, hint of wood and gentle, soft whisky. Balanced body, really balanced in taste, no sharp edges here whatsoever. Nice, almost to kind in taste for an Island whisky barreled stout.

Bottled 13JAN17. Upon opening a smell of silty chocolate filled the room, with a hint of peat. Very creamy mouthfeel. Taste is peaty, but without the sharpness it can have. Milky chocolate underneath, lots of wood, whisky, sily seashore. Stunning combi.

330 ml bottle, bottled 13 Jan 17. Black, oily body, with a small, creamy, tan head. Dense aroma of dark chocolate liqueur, coffee, whisky, cocoa, some toffee, some wood, some liquorice, slight smoke. Tastes similar, with more wood and smoke. Full, oily mouthfeel, with a low carbonation. Finishes warm, roasty-bitter, pretty dry-wooden, moderate sweet, smokey, with liquorice, whisky, coffee, cocoa powder, bitter chocolate. Tasty! Really dense and rich, with a very interesting mix of the smokey whisky notes, robust roasty notes and some oily sweetness. Really characterful stuff, while still a quite smooth sipper. Another great BA Stout by Buxton! Score: 8 / 4 / 8 / 4 / 17

Bottle shared with my brother. Pours a thick and oily black with almost no head. Aroma is dark malts and loads of peat smoke. Warmth and booze. Big body, thick mouthfeel. Flavour is malty with loads of dark malts but not too sweet. Some caramel and chocolate as well as brown sugar. Lot of peat, but doesn't dominate the beer completely. Lovely! But definitely a sipper - a good beer to share.
