(Bottle 25 cl) Pitch black beer with a brownish head. Lots of roasted malt - and roasted flavours. Starts with an ashy dryness, but initially a slight, sticky sweetness takes over - but far from as sweet as the typical Belgian sweet stout. 190998

Bottle. Dark ruby beer with caramel, roasted malt nose and a sweetness that continues through the mouth into the finish. Not one of my favourites as the sweetness puts you off. Re-rate, bottle at DHVL massive thanks to Ken, MadMitch76 as no one else would have bought it. Funnily enough I gave this the same score as first time round, but I clearly liked it more this time round. More milk choc. Creamy in mouth with an excellent finish. I really liked it.

Dark color, short brown head. Aroma of roasted malts, bread, rye. Unbalanced taste again, just like the pale ale, with a lot of malt, rye and bread. Dry palate.

Dark brown to black; huge brown head, reducing itself to 5mm rim. Liquorice, a bit flowery nose, further caramel syrup, very slightly roasted, sweet. Very scorched, dry, even smoked malt taste. A bit of (carbonised) bitterness, virtually no hops. The indication "sweet" stout is exaggerated - there's just a slight malt sweetness in the palate. In the finish, the remaining bitterness seems to turn slightly into an acidity, wheat-like. Mushroom aroma retronasal. Well-bodied, bit chewy, dry. Decent stout, after all.

This is a ''black'' beer, so I couldn''t rate the colour of the beer itself, but the head is really nasty. Just like beer that dried on the edge of a glass. This smells really like hop. Doubtful aroma. But yeah, stouts are not my favourites at all.
