In the past, table beer was commonplace on family tables.
This is actually not as strange as it sounds. Table beer contains vitamins and fewer calories than the majority of soft drinks. Furthermore a table beer can be very flavoursome and its low alcohol is in its favour.
’Maltosa’ is a brown table beer that contains just 1.2% alcohol.

Fles gedeeld door Inoven. Het is een diep donkerbruin bier met een dun schuim. Het heeft een caramel achtige geur. De smaak is zoet en zacht. Weinig met bier te maken, maar drinkt lekker weg.

16/VIII/17 - 33cl bottle from Willems (Grobbendonk) @ Taste and Waste session 1 (home) - BB: 16/VIII/17 (2017-1240)
Clear reddish brown beer, small irregular beige head, unstable, falls down very quickly and then dissipates. Aroma: smells like cola, weird. Also grains, malts, lots of cow fodder, horse stable. MF: ok carbon, light body. Taste: very sugary sweet, lots and lots of caramel, maltose indeed, some ersatz chocolate, lactose. Aftertaste: more sugar, caramel, grains, very sweet. Meh. What did I even expect.

Tasted as very diest, a beer that has been discontinued for a long time. Mine was almost 20 y old, bear in mind it for sure is over it’s top ! anyway, no fresh sample to be tasted anymore. ¨Pours nearly black ( thats a surprise ) Smell is weak, taste is dark Sugar, very simplistic sweet, like a cola that has been open for way too long. Actually, that is a pretty acurate taste discription ! just add some oxidation and you’re there.

Tasted as Very Diest, a semi-industrial kind of brown table beer with yellowish light beige, creamy, stable head leaving pretty lacing on the edge of the glass, very dark burgundy colour, clear. Caramel and chocolate in the nose but not necessarily in the ’malty way’, simple with the typical brown sugar and cola sweetness of the style, some iron. Mellow, slick, very sweet palate, chocolatey and sugary, candi syrup, some weak sourish graininess and a metallic echo, cloying sweet finish with no distinguishable hops. Very straightforward, but I had worse in this style - as well as a lot better.

Sample thx to benzai. Dark brown colour with ruby redness shining through, no head. Smells sweet and malty. Tastes sweet and malty, bit flat but perfect to fit a steak.

Ideal low-alcohol beer to have with dinner, have it at home pretty often. Smells a little syrupy, taste sweet.

Bottled. A deep red beer with no head. The aroma is dominated by artificial sweetener. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt and caramel.

Bottle, 1.2%. Roasted aroma. Clear very dark brown colour. Small light brown head. Quite sweet flavour. Not sugary as such, but proably more likemaltose as the name suggests. Tastes a lot better than white sugar.
