At Brass Tap Round Rock. Pitch black pour with a small tan head. Nose has lots of toasty chocolate and nuts with an accompanying big pine and citrus hop punch. Light spiciness in the background. Medium light sweet toffee and chocolate and a medium heavy bitterness. Medium slick mouth with medium carbonation and a long dry finish. Drinks like a Black IPA with a bit of spice.

Pours mahogany tinged black into a shaker. Off white head with medium retention recedes leaving soapy lacing. Dark chocolate and pepper aromas. Dark chocolate and pumpernickel upfront turning dry in the lasting chocolate covered caramel finish.

12oz bottle. Pours a deep caramel brown-black. Big beige head. Sweet in your face rye aroma. Sweet and sugary, a true chocolate rye beer all the way. Too sweet for me, the rye just is overbearing to me. A quality made offering, nice body...the flavors just aren’t what I’m seeking. I really wish rye would disappear from the brew world. That said, this one is OK, grew on me. Specialty malt sugary sweetness.

Thanks to John for sharing the bottle! Intense bitter-roasted beginning. Very malty bitter. Great depth. Intense body. Lots of intense deep dry roasted malt, great bitter hopped. Intense fresh, long intense but easy to drink dry and roasted aftertaste. Great.

Purchased at Bottles and Cans in Chicago, IL; enjoyed at home battling through the winter prior to recording a musical project. Appearance is pitch black, moderate consistency with a thin off white rim. Aroma is a nice mixture of grassy and piney hops with chocolate and roasted malt notes. Taste is pretty good, roasted chocolate pares well with the abundant hop backing, rye adds a light abrasiveness. Another good one from this great brewery.

Some roast and a little interesting rye aroma. Pours black with OK head and lacing. Light bitter finish. Well balanced and decent but not a huge beer, and not particularly memorable. Tap at Churchkey.

12 oz. bottle. Pitch black, great aroma of roasted grain, rye and light citrus hops. Nice and inviting.
Flavor starts of with dark roasted grains with some sweet chocolate hints through the center. The finish displays some biting rye malt and earthy lingering hops. Body is a tad on the thinner side but it does have good enough flavors. Overall this is another nicely made brew from Founders.
