Bottle from Fontana, about a year old - which should be sufficient to enjoy the Brettanomyces effects we all know and love. Strong gusher, but being prepared for this, I opened it carefully over the sink and managed to reduce the loss to a few cl... Typical ’gusher’ head, towering high at first but instantly collapsing to a very irregular, visually not very attractive rim of egg-white, loosely moussy foam leaving behind a long trail of intricately cobweb-like lacing, over an initially practically clear, deep ’old gold’ coloured, warm looking beer. Aroma of fermenting yellow plums, moist jute blankets, ’Bretty’ urine, natural white wine, old grape juice, sweat, overripe apricots, banana, dough, stewed rhubarb, damp hay, old moldy bread, abbey cheese, artisanal honey, strawberry, warm apple cake, spoiled cucumber, cream. Estery, lively onset of sweetish banana, overripe pear and pineapple surrounded by a mild but expressive gooseberry tartness, minerally and a bit ’numbing’ (over)carbonation, supple mouthfeel. Bready malt sweetish ’soil’ with cereally and very lightly caramelly edges, while the tartness continues and more and more Brett effects show up, releasing retronasal effects of old cloth, fermenting hay and wet leather - very unmistakable indeed. Ends dry yet still juicy, with still that overcarbonation numbing the tongue; lovely grape peel, unripe stonefruit and gooseberry notes all around, on top of a malt sweet basis with quite a lot of agreeable bready yeastiness in the end, but made bitter by a confident dosis of earthy, bit spicy, nicely drying and quenching hops. Too bad for the gushing and overcarbonation, if they manage to reduce the ’wildness’ of refermentation here, this could become a beer of high standard - provided that you like the typical effects of Brettanomyces of course, because these are all over the place here. Ideal beer to introduce people to Brett without much distraction. Basically a simple Belgian blonde made interesting with Brett, not unlike Rebelse Strop or Anders Brett and Oak (without the oak in this case) - a simple formula really, but for me this works. But again: too bad for the gushing!

Waited a long time before rating this beer, so the brett could fully develop. Clear orange beer, big solid creamy off-white head, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: very smelly, urine first, then fruity notes, some brett, peaches, bit dirty still. MF: lively carbon, medium body. Taste: pretty dirty start, funky, bitter, some citrus, grapefruit, little malty, hoppy bitterness as well. Aftertaste: grassy touch, lots of brett, fruity, peaches.

Aroma has urinal tones and soapy citrus. Flavour has urinal, soapy tones, mild spicy tones and hints of apricot. Palate is so foamy that idrinkability suffers and you concentrate more on burping than drinking. Dry finish, feels slightly watery on some sips.
