Aroma has caramel, a hint of oak and plums. Flavor has some herbal bitterness, plums and just a bit of sourness. Sweetish, a bit milky, but rather thin. 5% on the label. Lovely session beer, a fine mix of drinkability and complexity.

AFrom old tasting notes. Hazy ruby red color. Brief white head. Fragrant sour apple nose. Wow! Tangy, fruity wheat malt flavor with hints of crab apple and sour grape. Mouthpuckering with an intensely dry finish. Long, chewy tart aftertaste. Unique.

Old bottle thanks to Dylan! Pours dark brown - nose and taste of brown sugar, oxidized fruits, old books, light sherry - medium body. Much better than expected if you like brown sugar coated old books, which I guess I do.

Bottle thnx to Jef ! Pours clear , very dark amber. No sign of carbonation. Smell is oxidized, sweet, metallic. Taste is oxidized. Starts of having some lambic funk, yet fades away to a very sweet, metallic taste that is purely oxidation. Completely flat, I wonder if this ever was carbonated. Ok, not all to great, yet for the age it has, it held up ( a bit ) but we can be sure this one is over the top by now.

A ’versnijbier’ in an old, typically Lembeek tradition of ’double faro’, which was stronger than normal due to a more copious addition of candi sugar. Spiced with curaçao and - strangely - gentian and sweetened with candi sugar as custom for the style; subdued lambic character, wheaty, sweet and spicy, thin mouthfeel. Perhaps not to anyone’s liking but I still regret that a beer with such historical pedigree has been discontinued meanwhile; Boon’s Donkere Duivel, though a fine beer, cannot fully replace its authenticity.

Etwas oxidierter Geruch. /8/9/8/12/9
