12 oz. bottle from mixed 6 at Trader Joe's. Deep brown-black pour with a big tan head of foam. On the low end of an imperial stout, so I'm smelling mostly some dark roast malt, not much alcohol. But not bad. Also a whiff of what I believe is the Yorkshire brewing water. Taste is pleasant, a lighter stout roast malt. Some roasty bitterness comes in, and there's some of the alcohol. Enjoyable.

2003: A beer for extremists - if the brewers / maltsters had roasted the malt more, we'd be talking about cremation! An excellent after dinner beer, could stand in for a cup of espresso. Aftertaste lasts forever. One bottle is enough for the evening.

0.355 l bottle from Beerlovers, Vienna. Pours black colour with huge, everlasting beige head. Slight cocoa, some roasted malts and coffee in aroma. The same notes appear in taste, with creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation and medium body. Leaves traces of chocolate and cocoa that last medium. Altogether not bad, but too light and easy.

very very black, beige head. LOads of carbonation, i’m not used to that in an imperial, seeing how i’ve had so many american monsters in that category that pour like motor oil. Really nice roasty malt aroma, hint of coffee, and slight chocolate. Flavour is VERY roasty, and laced with coffee. Again, doesnt seem very imperial beside the american monsters, but this was around way before those, and this is an original impy, so i give it points for that!

Bottle at home. Aroma is roasted malt, liquorice, caramel, dark chocolate, espresso, touch of raisins. Flavour is moderate sweet and bitter. Body is medium to full. Not the most full-flavoured Imperial Stout, but it has great drinkability and I can see why it’s a classic of the style.

30/I/25 - 33cl bottle from La Bièrerie (Illkirch, Strasbourg, FR), shared with Klaas @ home, BB: I/2025, L23023 (2025-43)
Clear dark brown beer, small creamy beige head, a little stable, a bit adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: malty, nice, caramel, vanilla, chocolate notes, very nice, dried fruits, malty, nice roast, lovely smell! MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: good dark roast up front, pretty bitter, dry, hoppy touch, more dryness, nice. Aftertaste: soft roast, a little bitter, malty notes, hoppy, pretty, a little nutty, nice one!
