Bottle from Wijnegemse Drankenhal. Somewhere in between a Belgian blonde and an abbey tripel, this beer intends to celebrate the Kastelse Biervereniging as well as the lost breweries of the municipality of Kasterlee. Bottle opens with a buzz of gas, but there is no gushing, fortunately. Thickly lacing, creamy, frothy, eggshell white head over an initially clear, light orangey peach blonde beer with calm sparkling, misty amberish with deposit. Aroma of toasted bread, freshly cut grass, red apple, faint banana, peach, biscuit, caramel, some mango, soapy wheat, pumpkin soup, carrots, earth, pineapple, faint touch of dried orange peel and, sorry, dish water. Fruity, lightly estery onset, unripe peach and pineapple, hint of gooseberry and the expected citrus peel freshness, medium carbo with a slightly minerally effect, smooth and soft body, bready and a bit caramelly with a toasted accent in the end, bit yeasty, somewhat drying in the finish with a deep, leafy hop bitterishness, accomplishing a nearly tripel-like hop character but insufficient to balance the malt sweetness; a smooth bready sweetishness remains along with spicy notes, some rooty, earthy bitterness, a dash of ’jenever’-like alcohol (which should not be this apparent in a 7% ABV beer) and that strange, subtle but noticeable pumpkin impression. I have a very strong suspicion pumpkin flesh has been used here, like in Pompoen, commissioned by the same beer club and not dramatically different from this one (just that this is clearly better balanced). It lends this beer a vegetable-like, slightly meaty aroma and a somewhat distinctive character; other than that, however, all the flavours in this one seem a bit too subdued, nothing really stands out. If the aim is to balance the basic beer character with pumpkin flesh: mission accomplished, but pumpkin beer should imply pumpkin pie spices like the Americans do - throwing pumpkins or courgettes in a beer as such adds little extra value. That being said, this is a balanced beer with no obvious off-flavours; it is just a bit boring especially considering it is intended to celebrate a beer club, all the present flavours (despite the usage of 6 malts and 2 hops) remain a bit too silent for my personal taste. Someone should find out if pumpkin is indeed used here, and then this beer should be reclassified as "Spice / Herb / Vegetable"...

Bottle . Pours hazy orange, Rather small white head . Smell is yeasty, with a touch of grains . Taste is sharp bitter, with a yeasty taste to it . malts are very hidden here . Hops are straight and have no tasteable aroma to it . Easy drinkable ( even with the touch to high carbo ) . Ending has some sweetness, but with a bitter swing .

(bottle, 33cl) Cloudy, orange-golden colour with a big and slightly off-white foamy head. Yeasty spicy, mildly bready and slightly sugary cara-malty aroma with notes of ripe apricot and pineapples. Sweet and delicately bitter flavour, medium bodied with a calm carbonation. Slightly bready cara-malt character with slightly apricot-fruity notes and yeasty spice; moderately sweet and slightly bitter, mildly hoppy finish. Rounded brew, just a little bit discreet. 04.III.14

33 cl. bottle @ home. Procured from Willems. BBF 13/09/2015. Cheap looking, hideous label. Pretty hazy orange, little head. Sweet candy sugar, caramel, toffee nose, apricot & touch honey. Taste is caramel, thick BE yeast, touch apricot, honey, dried fruits, orange peel & orange zest. Little carb, honey body. Not bad at all.

4/VIII/13 - 33cl bottle from Willems (Grobbendonk) @ home - BB: 17/I/15 (2013-688)

Pretty cloudy amber beige beer, irregular off-white dense head, little stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: sweet malts, ripe sweet fruits, pineapple, honey, bit sugary, some caramel. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: bitter start, toast, citrus, bit dusty, quite some alcohol, fruity. Aftertaste: dry and bitter hops, citrus, some alcohol, toasted malts, bit of honey, almonds, alcohol is pretty noticeable, but still it's a very nice beer. I love the fruitiness in this one!

33 cl bottle @ Gastropub Tuulensuu, bottled 17.01.2012, BBE 7.01.2015
Musty aroma with ripe fruits, citrus, some apricot, alcohol and moldy cellar. Flavour has apricot, some citrus, grassy hops and hints of alcohol, which does not disturb though. Somewhat dry and yeasty. Good.

Bottle @ Benzai. Bright, clear orange colour with a big, fluffy white head. Smells like orange peel, other fruits and fresh. Tastes hoppy, orange peel and fresh. Good carbo, great body.
