(Previously labeled Blueberry Lambic). Blueberry is barrel-aged sour ale that combines the traditional Belgian-style sour with blueberries sourced from Michigan and Canada. We ferment our base blonde ale, Basis, over six to eight months in oak tanks to produce tart flavors, fruity notes, and a funky character. Then, we select a blend of individual batches for fruiting with whole blueberries for an additional three months, creating an intense blueberry fruit character with floral and dark fruit aromas. The final blend is bottle conditioned, resulting in a fine carbonation and spritzy mouthfeel. Blueberry is the perfect drink to share with
friends over a plate of good cheese and fresh fruit.

In the spring of 2006, I brewed 300 gallons of top-fermented beer using wild yeast to create a Belgian-style Lambic. We conditioned the beer in oak casks and then initiated a secondary fermentation in the casks using whole fruit from Huber's Orchard in Starlight, Indiana. You should experience a tart, almost sour taste balanced by the aromatic and richly flavorful addition of whole blueberries - perfect to share with friends, and a platter of good cheese and fresh fruit. - Caleb Staton, Head Brewer

750mL bottled 11/13/2019, drunk 5/5/23. Clear, blueberry pulp-tinted with a pinkish color and a small, pinkish head. Quite acidic in the nose with a good mix of fruit acidity, strong lactic acidity, moderate brett and minimal acetic. Some oak, with tons of lush blueberry fruit character and nutty and lightly white bread/honey-like malts. Clean, no alcohol. In the mouth it's full of blueberry. Pretty cool, as blueberry has been the most difficult fruit to get great expression from, in my experience. And this is four years old and still shows a ton of it? Wow. Noticeable oak, much more than in traditional lambics, though it's not unpleasant. Big lactic acidity as well as the blueberry fruit. It's missing any sense of funk/barnyard, but other than that is clean, well-attenuated, soft and malty with excellent fruit.

Bottle @ UDRB, Oirschot. Clear red color. Oak, leather and brett in the aroma. They are dominant, not the fruit. Just a touch of blueberries. Almost flat beer. The flavor has cassis. Fruity acidic. Tannines present, especially in the aftertaste.

Many thanks to Rian! Nice fruity sourness in the beginning. The beer starts sour-fruity. Not too complex. Nice fresh-sourish with fruity hints. Not too intense, abut boring with mouldy hints. Sourish and easy to drink aftertaste with blueberry hints. Ok but not overwhelming.

Bottle - Berry notes, not specifically blueberry, and bit of tart jam. Purple with no head. Berry and very acidic with some dryness. Nice.

750 ml bottle shared by Willrunforbeer, much thanks! Real nice purple color without any head. Aroma is funky lambic yeast, oak, tart Berry and a shot ton of lactic sourness.

The flavor starts with a slap of lactic acid, followed by residual sugars in the center then it gets and light moldy cheese note. Aggressively sour pucker after the sip. This is going to give me a harsh heartburn. I guess if you like the style, it would be something you want to try but I didn’t get much blueberry in the flavor.

Bottle thnx to Geoffrey . Pours red/pink , instantly fading white head . Smell is fleshy berry , sour . Taste is sour, bit harsh . Fruity, fleshy . Very dry . Nice , but very simple ( sour bacteria added rather than a complex mixture of different Brettanomyces - species ) .

750ml bottle. Thanks to Travlr! March 2014 DC Tasting. Poured a very purple, blue color, small off-white head. Aroma was heavy notes of blueberry. Lots of tart notes. Sour, lots of sour. Pucker. Acetic. I hadn’t had something this tart in a long time.
