Caramelaroma with a hint of cherry. Caramel flavor with just a touch of tartness and chichory bitterness. Lacks the real Oudenaards bruin character.

Adriaen Brouwer’s precursor, one of those remnants of a time when every brewery in and around Oudenaarde made this type of beer; basically ’oud bruin’ without the bacterial fermentations which typify the West-Flemish variant. Bronze colour, thin, off-white head, caramelly profile with some candi, dried fruits, dough; earthy and yeasty taste, sweetish, even a bit sugary but in a good way, smooth, but thin mouthfeel. Honest and old-fashioned - who can have anything against that? Doesn’t age very well, though.

Bottle @ Delirium Cafe. BB 2006. Clear dark reddish brown with an off-white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, dark malts and oxidated. Flavor is quite sweet and light bitter. Sweet finish. Shame on Delirium Cafe for serving such an old beer to a customer when it clearly isn’t meant to be cellared. 190712

Bottle. Deep ruby brown colour, beige head. Aroma is very sweet, raisins, dark fruits and malts, sugar. Flavour is likewise, very sweet, syrupy, raisins. A hint of sourness, some coffee/roasted malts. Way too sweet for me.
