The house beer of restaurant and club Den Artiest in Ostend, apparently from the guys that gave us Papegaei and even if this is clearly a very close relative, the ABV differs enough to grant it an own entry I suppose – though doubtlessly it is the same recipe as that ‘Merksemse Buskanter’ entered by kraddel here under the same brewery (or rather, ‘beer company’). From a bottle at, obviously, Den Artiest. Regularly shaped, moussy, only very slowly opening, off-white head over a misty peach blonde beer with a ‘dirty orange’-ish tinge to it. Aroma of ripe peach, banana, dried bitter herbs, moist white pepper, rainwater, cooked carrots, soggy rusk, camomile, old apples, orange peel. Fruity, sweet onset, ester with notes of peach and banana, as well as some ripe pear, with a light sourish undertone. Fizzy, minerally carbonation, supple mouthfeel; peanutty and sandwich-like malt body with a light caramelly sweetish edge and some honeyish residual sugar sweetishness. Herbal, rooty, quite confident hop bitterness in the finish, floral with lingering sweetness on top as well as coriander- and orange peel-like aspects. Ends a bit earthy but not overly so, with lingering esters, caramelly malt sweetness and rooty hop bitterness. Not unpleasant by far, a bit cliché as expected, but in any case more interesting than many even more bland and sweet blondes used as ‘house’ beers throughout the country.
