Ale Fermented in Oak
Refermented on Second Use Grenache Grapes from Upland Vineyard

This 2020 harvest beer was made using second use Grenache grapes from Upland Vineyard on Spines Mountain. The destemmed grapes were lightly pressed for rosé then underwent a short maceration with a blend including mostly wheat saison from second and fourth use gin barrels.

This beer was refermented to condition in the bottle with Washington Star Thistle honey. Thanks to Chris and crew at Avennia for their generosity and grapes.

Poured from 750mL bottle. Hazy orangey red with small white head. Grape skin, light-medium gin, touch of oak, wild yeast quality is subdued. Quite nice.

750mL bottle, pours a hazy dark-ish red with a small white head. Aroma is full of vinous grape skins, followed by herbal gin barrels, and light bugs. Flavour is dominated by both the gin barrels and grapes. The gin barrels are surprisingly prominent for being 2nd and 4th use, and the grape skins add a nice mustiness to this. Moderately buggy, but the wild yeast is rather buried beneath the gin and grape. Very nicely made.

Bottle thanks to Anthony. Pours a cloudy purple with small off white head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is strong grape skin, oak, funk, floral, rosemary, gin. Slick body, grape skin, funk, oak, gin, light tartness, balanced, enjoyed this.
