You are holding a pure artisan craft ale, free of any additives. This is a real ale. Unfiltered and unpasteurized, so a small amount of sediment in the bottom of the bottle is natural. South Plains RIP is made with North American hops to balance the huge amounts of English malts that give this dark ale it’s complex and generous flavor. Imperial Porter is a style that is higher in alcohol, bearing more flavor than traditional porters. Store this beer in a cool, dark place. When it’s young it’s very heartwarming. As it ages it will get smoother and smoother.

250ml, draught at Bishop Arms. Naked surface, only a ring to the edge of the glass. Black as pitch. Dark malty smell with vanillas sweetness. Flavour of dark roasted malts and anise offset by notes of pine needles towards a bittersweet tail. Masked alcohol. Surprisingly easy to drink. Likable without further excitements (Copenhagen, 22.05.2013).

Bottle. Fairly deep cigar, burning grass and wood smoked, soy, roasted. Black, low head. Smoked, roasted, dark chocolate, soy saltiness, herbal notes. Medium to light body, wooden dryness - slightly more chewiness would be good..

(Bottle, 0.33 l - batch 2, bottled 12/2/12, BBE 13/12/12, courtesy of baggio, thanks Robert!, 20130405) The beer poured black. Its head was medium sized, fizzy and light brown. Aroma had roasted malts, chocolate, liquorice, dark chocolate and coffee Palate was full bodied and quite dry with surprisingly high carbonation. Flavours were roasted malts, burnt malts, ash, soy sauce, liquorice, sweetness, dark chcolate, hops and bitterness. Aftertaste was burnt, hoppy and bitter. A well balanced dark strong beer. A bit too burnt for my taste and alcohol began pushng through in the aftertaste but still an enjoyment to drink.

Bottle from Systembolaget, e-order in February 2013. Black with a huge tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, licorice, dark chocolate, ash and some fruit. Taste of roasted malt, licorice, coffee and dark chocolate. Rather bitter with a pleasant creamy mouth feel. Not bad but I think that this one might be better with one year in the cellar.

Black color with generous brownish creamy head. Very nice aroma of roasted malts and quality coffee; and hops; the alcohol doesn’t disturb either. Smooth mouthfeel, with a good structure; the evident roasted malt structure is blending with good chocolate; the general feeling is quite roasty and dry; good hopping, both for the strength and for the contribution of resins. The final is good, not just the roasted malt in it, but also the claw of the hops.
Very good and smooth modern example.
