Designed to challenge the senses as well as perceptions, this is an easy-drinking, strong flavoured and spiced stout. This beer has captured the imagination and the fans across the UK and in America, even gaining an honourable mention in the 2013 Brussels Beer Challenge.
Taking you on a journey to South America, via Yorkshire, drinking this 6.5% Chipotle Chocolate Stout is a journey in itself. Rich heady chocolate on the nose, it’s all about deep luscious stouty goodness throughout with a soft mouthfeel. Just as a coffee bitterness develops, and you’re thinking that the party’s over, a subtle dry heat arrives that not only leaves your mouth tingling, but also thirsty and gasping for another taste. The Mayans smoked their chillis, and rather than brew with smoked malt, which can add to the bitterness, we used freshly smoked dried chipotle chillis to add an extra layer of flavour.

Jet black pour, small beige head. First thing I got off the aroma was a punch of smokey Chipotle.... Then I look at the commercial description, and it all makes sense. Lots of smoke, and Chipotle. Very bitter, with some distinct pepper flavours, with the slightest tinge of heat. As it warms the cocoa comes through with a subtle sweetness.

Keg at Friends of Ham, Leeds. Sampled July 2016. Pours deep mahogany with beige tan foam. Aroma: chocolate, vanilla, some coffee. Taste: light to moderate sweet & bitter, milk chocolate creamy sweetness then the chipotle heat kicks in. Medium body with soft carbonation.

Gusher! Does what it promises. Proper stout, chocolatey malts, some coffee. Little bit thin, though. The chilli is well done, nice touch of heat on the lips and in the throat. Just enough heat for the body to handle. Solid chilli stout.

(Bottle) Black colour with big, frothy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of chocolate, cacao, dried fruit, strong black coffee, dried apricots and a touch of chilli. Malty, roasted taste with chocolate, cacao, black coffee, dried fruit, some orange peel, burnt sugar and a sweetish finish with a mild cacao bitterness and some chilli heat coming through after a while. More than medium body, with smooth mouthfeel. Quite sweet. Interesting, with good chocolate and chilli flavours, but gets too sweet to be in perfect balance. Quite nice.

The beer gushed out of the bottle, so lost a lot of it and head disappeared quickly leaving no lace. Dark brown colour with ruby highlights. Beautiful aromas of chocolate, chocolate and spicy spices. The taste is pretty much the same with some coffee notes. A little oily mouthfeel. A very good chipotle chocolate stout.

Negra casi opaca, tinte rojizo. Espuma ocre poco duradera. Aroma intenso a chocolate, y notas de chipotle. Sorprendente en boca. Pica!

Bottle 33 cl. Pours dark brown with a reddish hue and a creamy, beige head. Aroma is very sweet milk chocolate. Medium body, again sweet milk chocolate accents - appear artificial somehow - and then a discreet chili bite. A vague underlying roastiness. Pretty gross to be honest, and the flavour components are really a match made in hell. 260916

Bottle from Latitude, Leeds. Black with next to no head. Has a strong chocolate aroma, with its spice subduing this greatly in its taste. It only provides a mild kick and fire in the palate though.
