Dark gold/light brown. Faint, vague, fleeting sweet honey aroma. Bland sweetish sour taste. Basically, there’s not much to this beer. Tastes even weaker than 4%. Not really my cup of tea.

Cask on handpump at the Stag & Hounds, Binfield. An attractive bright golden amber colour with a loose translucent head; pleasant pear-drop aroma; pear-drop flavour too with a medium body, some honey, but not too sweet; then a fresh grassy bitterness and a slight sweetening at the end.

50 cl bottle @ HBF. Rated on 21.05.2010
Aroma has honey, English hops and hints of hay. Flavour has somewhat artifical honey notes, hay, English hops, caramel and toffee. 10 cl of this stuff was definitely enough. It seeems that Joseph Holt is not one of my favourite breweries.

Cask at Hamilton Hall, JDW, London. Pours dark gold with a weak foam head. Lightly toasted malt nose with hints of berries. Medium sweet flavor with mild toasted malts, light dry toffee, subtle yet sweet berry fruits. Light bodied with soft carbonation. Pretty sweet to finish with toasty sugars, very light jammy berries, impressions of honey sweetness but not the flavor. A so so golden ale. Pretty enjoyable.

Bag-in-the-box at Square Peg, Birmingham
Golden color, with a small but persistent creamy head. Light malt and caramel aroma. The malt flavor is quite good, with some toffee and light butter; correct bitterness level too. The final is lightly metallic.
Pleasant.

It would seem every other brewery in the UK has a Honey beer, this is Holts attempt. My brown 500ml bottle had only two weeks to go before its best before date (23 June 2010). The beer was poured (chilled) into a vase shaped pint glass (badged, Old Speckled Hen). The body is a dull golden/amber in colour, a thin off-white head sat on top. Mexican aroma honey? Has been used according to the bottle label, I could just about sence hints of honey, along with some citrus hoppiness. The taste was bland and uninteresting, there is a slight presence of honey within the flavour and a mini hop bittereness to counter it. Sadly they just don’t blend too well, the malts come into the flavours towards the end of the mouthfeel. To be fair, everything grew in size (aroma and flavour) as the chillness eased off and the beer warmed, I enjoyed it a whole lot better during the second half of the review.

50cl bottle. Decent white head. Clear golden pour. Nice enough beer but I was expecting more.

Not an unpleasant aroma, but it’s only very faint. Looks decent enough. I like the taste but there’s not a lot to it. Once it’s out of your mouth the taste is pretty much gone and it doesn’t leave much after it. The taste is nice but the fact that it dissipates so quickly makes it seem a bit bland.

cask at the Anchor, Sidmouth. Amber-golden colour, fruity nose. Medium-bodied, malty, hints of honey and citrus fruit. Nice.
