14/3/2026. Cask at The Windmill, Stansted Airport. Pours very well. Aroma is chocolate cake, maple, caramel, pecan, touch of coffee and liquorice. Mellow sweetness with some roasted bitterness. Nicely balanced. Good body, velvety smooth, soft carbonation. A really good pint and definitely beer of the festival (of the 25 tried).

Wetherspoon Spring Beer Festival 2026, Beer#18. Black brew, with its maple syrup inclusions most evident in aroma and taste, only mildly sweet tasting, with the maple developing again in aftertaste.

Cask at Shrewsbury Hotel, Shrewsbury. Pours a very dark reddish-brown with a small scummy tan head and good lacing. There’s roasted malts and chocolate in the aroma – plus a hint of lactose. In the mouth it starts off sweet with a creamy texture and flavours of chocolate, roasted malts, nuts and maple. Later it becomes slightly bitter and spicy with hints of honey. Finish is slightly dry. This is quite nice – rewards patient sipping.
