Cask at Colmore, Birmingham. Pours black, nice creamy beige top. Very roasty in character, light coffee, smoke/ash, wood, enough sweetness to balance it. Creamy, smooth, drying ashy finish. Excellent for the strength.

Black beer, thin off-white head. Good aroma of coffee and malty chocolate. Flavour follows suit. Coffee, sweet and toasty malt, a dash of anise, dark chocolate. Warming, with a decent body and a lovely balance between the dry, roasty and sweet flavours. For a session stout this is a hell of a thing.

Can from Westhill Service Station. It pours darkest brown to black with a decent frothy beige head. The aroma is rich roasted malt, umami, good hit of liquorice, charred wood, molasses, malt loaf, toasty, ash, espresso coffee and bitter dark chocolate. The taste is dry, bitter, charred action, burnt toast, toothy, umami, liquorice, tarry, molasses, peppery spice, touch of dark fruits and earth with a dry, roasty finish. Light to medium body and fine carbonation. Plenty flavourful for the abv. Loads of umami.
