To celebrate 40 years of CHOUFFE, the gnomes wanted to surprise eveyone who enjoys Brasserie d’Achouffe beers. They created CHOUFFE 40, a special beer that combines smoothness with hints of spice. It's a refreshing blond beer that's lighter than the rest of the range, and you'll love its citrus and sage notes.

Bottle from a local bottle shop. Aroma is spicy yeast, pale malt, coriander, floral notes. Flavour is moderate bittersweet, body is medium. Meh... a substantial downgrade from regular Chouffe, thus a poor birthday celebration.

330ml bottle. Minimally milky, orange golden to amber colour with average, frothy, slowly osteoporosing, minimally lacing, white head. Floral and fruity hoppy, mildly yeasty spicy, and caramel malty aroma, hints of chamomile, coriander, unspecific fruitiness with jelly bear and pineapple character. Taste is mildly bitter, herbal and minimally floral hoppy, caramel malty basis with some residual sweetness, hints of coriander, a touch of chamomile, liquorice, subtle, unspecific fruitiness. Watery texture, slightly dry palate, medium, mildly prickly carbonation. Nice composition, delectable aroma - pretty decent.

330ml bottle from The Wine Seller, Compton, Wolverhampton. Pours gold with hazed sediment, large white head. Fragrant, spiced aroma. Flavour profile seems noticeably more herbal than standard Chouffe in place of a reduced sweetness, additional sage is there but not dominant, with that unmistakable Belgian yeast singing loud. Really lovely beer.
