Of all artforms, the art of barrel ageing demands that the artist put the canvas before the brushstroke. And few casks command respect quite like the Jerez barrels of Andalucia; bringing out those brandy notes calls for the richest of imperial stouts.

The liquorice and cacao of the stout are at one with the oak and dried fruit characters of the barrel. Finally a hit of blood orange syrup cuts through everything, adding real vibrancy to this experimental masterpiece.

Can from The Gull, North Vancouver
Black colour, medium sized creamy brown head. Aroma of chocolate and rum. Full bodied, moderately sweet, dark chocolate with a pinch of coffee, touch of vanilla, molasses; the alcohol is well hidden. Excellent.

330ml on Alex's porch. Appearance: very dark brown with a dark beige head. Aroma: somewhat strange for me barrel character with some sweetness and inky notes. Taste: along the same lines with inky character and some burnt and smoky notes. Overall: it's a bit weird tasting profile for me, but for sure it is a quality beer with a huge barrel character.

Can picked up from Beer Republic webshop, Breda, Netherlands, *I think, and consumed Thursday 26th August 2021 still sat outside looking at the unbelievable views *even though it's now dark, from our Delphi Camping, Campsite, Greece. Pours black with a tan head. Soft mouthfeel, creamy, smooth, chocolate. Boozy but in a nice, comforting, enveloping, warming way, chocolate orange, little streak of tobacco, vanilla, really nice oh....and then Loz knocks both this and her wine over as she wanted to put her feet on the table, grrrrr....
