The first bottle of the Single Barrel Select series, Cali Gold. It was emptied from a 10 year old California Brandy barrel that held a huge chewy English Barleywine for 27 MONTHS. Over the course of this time, we lost 25% of the barrel volume to evaporation leaving the beer more concentrated with waves of velvety caramel and dates, intertwined with vanilla, oak, and brandy, all balanced by booze.

Pretty nice barley wine, and I don't ordinarily love barley wines. Some brandy, apricot. A little oaked. Plenty of booze, molasses. Dark mahogany pour with ok head. Boozy sweet finish. Tap at Savor.

Sample@MBCC 2021, Copenhagen - Dark brown pour with no discernible head. Sweet and toasted malty, lots of caramel and toffee sweetness, dried fruit shred, full body, lots of brandy bourbon and vanilla waves into the finish. Gorgeous.

Flaska från Elmer, tack! Grumlig, tjock brunaktig vätska, ingen krona. Helt stilla. Stor, kladdig, dekadent. Rejält med fat på bästa sätt, brandy, kolaremmar, russin, en gnutta läkerol, marsipanbröd. Stor, tjock kropp. Inte för sött eller för kladdig, trots storleken. Mäktig.

Power tasting at Matt's, bottle, synthetic cork; 90 USD
The transparent bottle shows quite some sediment; after some involuntarily shaking, the liquid pours viscously, opaque brown, with no head. Aroma of malt, raisins, light signs of oxidation, alcohol. Full bodied, thick, almost oily, it probably had good malt depth initially, but now some elements are mutated; raisins, earthy chocolate, and these last 2 clash with the malt; strong alcohol, phenol.
Chaotic and dirty, almost mediocre, stupidly priced for what it is, just marketing gimmick on a long barrel aging attempt that they don't master.

Poured from 750mL thick glass bottle. Dark mahogany brown with no head. Dark dried fruit, brandy, both sweet and sticky, but also smooth. Nice, but totally overpriced.

Fancy 750ml (thx, Randall C.!) @ Matt's. Appearance: muddy brown with no head. Aroma: lots of brandy, caramel, barrel, dark fruits, toffee. Taste: very silky, a bit oxidized, moderately sweet, lots of barrel character, a bit boozy, very long aftertaste. Overall: for sure it's nice, but it is also definitely insanely overpriced being almost 90 USD bottle.

750mL bottle, pours a deep dark mahogany, no head. Nose is pretty divine, with lots of brandy barrels upfront, followed by toffee, dark dried fruits, and some toasted caramel. Flavour is extremely intense, with lots of brandy barrels, intense booze, dark dried fruits -- especially dates -- followed by toffee and some tart red fruits. I'd prefer this without the tartness, though I guess it works. Boozy, brandy-dominated, and fruity, with plenty of depth. Not even close to worth the $75++ USD price tag. It's an excellent barley wine, but far from world class.

Sort of a muddyish appearance, no head, light brown. Sticky aroma, some figs, and it's not so crazy on the nose. On the palate, there's more going on. Figs, dates and raisins...that sort of thing. This is sticky, and brings a bit of brandy notes, and a big boozy finish. The alcohol and barrel bring some dryness to it, but it's still sticky as fuck. So burly and intense, rounded, but the aroma doesn't get me going.
