500ml bottle. Clear, yellow-ish, golden colour with average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, snow white head. Grainy, strawy, pale malty aroma, hoppy, mineral overtones. Taste is slightly grainy and strawy, pale malty with low residual sweetness, minimally grassy, mildly bitter hoppy, a mineral touch.
Oily texture, smooth and soft, minimally greasy palate, medium to fine, very dense, creamy, mildly prickly carbonation.
Good mouthfeel, othewise rather grainy and monotonous - meh.

Canned version with a different design to the bottle. Smoothish in texture, quite ordinary lager in the grand scheme of things.

Bottle. Clear gold featuring a proper white head. Aroma of grains, lemons, diacetyl and a whiff of vanilla. Taste of grains, soap, bread, butter, minerals and lemons. Low bitterness. Low to medium carbonation. Soft almost creamy mouthfeel and that’s the only good thing about this one. It‘s exactly what I have come to expect from Engel: Mediocre and disappointing.

Tight white foaming head left a creamy top on a finely carbonated pale amber coloured body. Malt & biscuit aroma. Medium bodied, soft with a short dry back. Biscuit, metallic, grain & light hop tastes. Standard.

[50cl can of “Koningsgold Lager” from Home Bargains.] An amber pour with a thin white head; grassy aroma with a touch of honey; sweet malty taste; then a grassy bitterness and some honey to finish. a reasonable Helles style lager.
