0.75 l bottle from 'Getränke Kosmol', as 'Borbecker Dunkler Bock', best before November 2024. Clear, reddish brown with a medium large, frothy, almost stable, beige head. Sweetish-malty, a bit fruity aroma of grains, straw, lemon peel and a touch of caramel. Gently sweet, malty, moderately bitter, a little fruity taste of grains, straw, lemon peel, just sime caramel and light honey, followed by a short, moderately bitter, gently grassy finish. Medium body, gently effervescent mouthfeel, average to lively carbonation. Interesting Bock, quite fruity, grassy and fresh for a dark version. Actually resembles the pale version a lot, just looks different.

Bottle. dark brown color. Malt and caramel in the aroma. Malty sweetish, soft roasty caramelly flavor with apple syrup. Just enough roast character to make this full bodied beer drinkable.

Had this as Borbecker Dunkler Bock. Huge thanks to Erzengel for that one! Bottle looks really good. Beer in the glass dark brown, almost black, nice small head. Intense malty-roasty aroma. Starts strong but not alcoholic, fine malty-roasty, more and more earthy-malty. Some hints of bitter chocolate, coffee, liquorice. All in all well balanced and quite drinkable for its strength. Nice one!

Bottle from Trinkgut in Wuppertal. Fresh malty beginning. Easy to drink, fruity and malty. Lots of malt and grain, moderate bitter, sticky and grainy.

75cl bottle shared with Erzengel. A clear orange brown beer with a beige head. Aroma of mild caramelish and strong grainy malt. Taste of strong grainy malt, straw, cereals, nothing special.

12/11/12/10//10

(tap at the brewpub in Essen-Borbeck) Clear and dark amber colour with a reddish shine and a short foamy off-white head. Sweet and toasty malts aroma with dried fruits (plums, raisins) and caramel; medium to full bodied, sweet malty caramelly taste with a tinge of dried fruits. Mainly sweet malty and slightly herbal hoppy finish with a moderately bitter aftertaste. Not bad - the best one of the Borbecker Brauhaus collection I had so far (16.01.06).

On tap at the brewpub: Amber coloured, off-white stable head, lacing; faint sweetish-malty nose with a tinge of alcohol and hops; sweetis and malty start, becoming soon dryer; better-sweet flavour, medium bodied; long lasting, quite dry bitter-malty finish with a tinge of chocolate; a decent, warming Winter-Bier, not too heavy, not too sweet. Well balanced, well drinkable........
