Dark, rich & malty with notes of dark chocolate, coffee and a light smoke on the nose; this deceptively dark and brooding brew is definitely an easy-drinker as Porters go. The dry finish on this London Style Porter keeps it surprisingly refreshing for a dark beer.

330ml can from the brewery. Poured a hazy dark brown colour with a big fizzy off white head. The aroma is roasty malt liqourice, ashtray, light caramel. The flavour is moderate bitter and sweet, with a slightly crisp, earthy, mineral, hop bitter palate. Medium to light bodied with average to lively carbonation.

Perfect looking porter with a rich malty smell. Flavour is toasty malt too, with some dark chocolate and a little hop at the back end. Pretty solid.

Keg at Southern @ 4.2%. It pours darkest brown with a small beige head. The aroma is sweet, sticky, oily, treacle, chocolate cake, bit of toasted marshmallow, toffee and coffee grounds. The taste is dry, damp wood, earthy roast, peppery spice, burnt wood, chewy malt, coffee grounds, treacle and plain chocolate with a charred finish. Medium body, low carbonation and oily mouth - feel. Nice aroma, but the taste is a bit charred and the condition is flat. A bit of a mixed bag.

On-tap half-pint in The Royal Dick (Barney’s Tap Room) on 9th July 2017. Pours a full black colour, tanned topping. Roasted and toasted malts in the nose and taste, slighly more sweet than over roasted maltiness. Easy drinking and pleasant.

Cask at The Southern. Pourts dark brown with a red tinge, thin beige head. Aromas of milk chocolate and malt. Taste is light sweet, more chocolate. Light body, but not too light considering the strength. Good stuff.
