February 2015: 500 ml bottle, as Grünbacher Altweisse Dunkel, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 5.3%. Hazy brown colour, pours fizzy with a large to moderate off-white head. Pleasant wheaty aroma with notes of cloves, citrus, banana and brown bread. Fairly light bodied, wheaty and citrussy flavour, hints of cloves, banana and brown bread again. Low bitterness, as typical for the style. A nice refreshment - even people who normally prefer the paler hefeweizens should not be scared stiff by this one.

500 ml bottle. Cloudy brown with a foamy head. Caramel, toffee, cocoa and citrus. Malty sweetness, dry bitterness. Medium bodied, oily texture, lively carbonated, dry malty sweet finish. A decent Dunkelweizen, quite malty and sweet, yet with a good dry backbone, which makes this a balanced Weisse.

Optisch braun, recht dünner Schaum. In der Nase dezent malzig. Im Trunk bittersüß, hefig, bisschen Schoko, verhältnismäßig dünn, aber noch okay.

Bottle. Cloudy dark orange with a beautiful huge white head. Aroma of malts, yeast and booze. Taste of caramel, some wheat and malts with acidic hints of citrus fruits. Alcoholic aftertaste complemented by a dull bitterness. Medium carbonation. Thin body. This lacks a lot. Kind of like a Dunkelweizen for folks who don’t really care for this particular style.

Bottle picked up from Getränkemarkt Fleischmann, Lagenbach, Sunday 23rd August 2020, sat outside. Pours hazy amber with a white head, soft mouthfeel, banana and light caramel, fine enough but mid table mediocrity beckons.
