Der Starke für die besonderen Momente. Fast schwarz mit einem sensationellen Schaum und einem bananigen Duft erinnert er im Antrunk an Kaffeenoten. Im Nachtrunk besticht er durch sein volles Malzaroma.

Dull dark brown colour. Small head. Hazy. Depths of dark fruit in the nose with chocolate accents. Sweet but it’s quality maltiness with hints of chocolate, toffee along with lots of plum and raisin. Smooth, unspectacular but quality throughout.

Bottled. An unclear dark brown beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is sweet wheaty with notes of banana and caramel. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of carraway seeds, wheat, banana, and caramel.

Bottle, imported a couple months ago, drunk on 10/19/07
Large, blossoming, dark-beige head settles out and slowly recedes to cover, leaving light lacing. Clarity is high, leaving the sediment behind. Body is a deep chestnut with darker chocolate notes.
Sweet and malty in the nose, with notes of raisins and bananas that give way to a light roastiness, dotted with pepper-like phenols. The poignant fruity notes up front (the raisins, some plums and such) really improve the complexity and balance well the sweeter caramel-toffee malts. Some doughy/bready yeast on the end cuts the aroma short somewhat, only leaving sparse roast and bananas to linger. No alcohol is noted, nor any flaws. Medium-high strength of aroma.
Sweet, but tapering off quickly, is the maltiness, with breadiness asserting itself over the soft toffee/caramel sweetness. Add in the moderate to light amounts of roast and it comes out lightly chocolatey. Carbonation is medium in strength, and not quite as tight as I would like, leaving a little looseness on the palate. Creamy banana notes are smooth and not overdone, thanks to this fine yeast that must be culled from weihenstephaner stock. With warming, plums and raisins add light vinousness, which is tremendously complementary to the sweet toffee and chocolate notes. More like a hefe weizen in body and texture (though obviously somewhat sweeter), but it improves drinkability. No flaws or alcohol noted.

Pours a cloudy brown into a Weizen. Huge tan head with excellent retention. Banana, clove and wheat aromas. Crisp upfront pit fruit and clove with a lasting spice finish.

Hazy and dark brown below a dense, off-white head. Strong aroma of banana with lesser notes of malty toasted bread, clove and caramel plus a hint of pencil lead that also shows up in the taste. The flavor is moderately sweet and slightly bitter. Wheat comes through in both aroma and flavor. Very fizzy mouthfeel. Medium body. Slightly tart to bitter finish, but the malty sweetness is dominant throughout. Enjoyable.

Courtesy of boboski. Pours light brown-ish copper with off white head. The aroma is sugary sweetness, wheatiness, banana and slight tartness. The flavor is much like the aroma with sweet sweetness that is sweet, wheat notes, lightly roasted malts, hints of banana, earthiness and some tartness. The feel is light in body.

RBSG07. From 50 cL bottle (Bavarian US export version). Pours muddy brown with an off white head. Aroma is banana and bubblegum. Flavour is the same into the finish which has some bitterness. I just don’t get the bubblegum thing.

(Bottle 50 cl) Courtesy of joergen. Pours a hazy brownish with a dense, off-white head. Aroma of yeast and banana. Quite full-bodied with sweetish banana notes + quite some diacetyl and yeast. Decent all right. 270607

Bottle(from shigadeyo). Sweet banana clove aroma - very nice. Cloudy orange-brown color with large head, high effervescense, and nice lacing. Sweet banana, bitter clove and stale wheat malt flavor. Mild astringent finish. Very nice beer.

Thanks to DerDoppelbock, a double rating: the original German version, and the version for the US export, as figured on the RB picture. There ARE minute differences, it seems. PLANK BAVARIAN DUNKLER WEIZENBOCK Colour: Huge grey-yellowish head, dense, over totally opaque auburn beer. (4/5) Nose: Grassy, spicey, with a lot of cloves; maybe some banana and glue. Also a bit gassy, CO² nose. Though a bit sweet, actually nice. (8/10) Taste: Liquorice, wheatimpression, some faint fruitiness in the background with maybe some banana, but the wry-ish liquorice flavour remains in the foreground. Slight sourishness. (6/10) Palate: Bit thin feeling, sourishness getting stronger after a few sips. Alcohol well hidden. (3/5) Overall: Decent Weizenbock with a nice nose, sample a bit tired. (13/20) PLANK DUNKLER WEIZENBOCK Colour: Good dense fine head, dark beige; very dark brown beer with reddish shine. (4/5) Nose: Very clovey Weizen, bit of banana, and fruity sweetness. Quite nice nose. (8/10) Taste: Fruity, banana and clove. Finish is sourish, IMO as much from the CO² as from the wheat. (6/10) Palate: In the palate, a sweet rosewater flavour develops. Much more carbonated feel than the US version. Long lasting flavours, sweet and liquorice. Alcohol well hidden. (4/5) Overall: Decent Weizenbock with a very nice nose. (14/20) Points are an average.
