Potus non frangit ieiunium. – “Drinking is not breaking the fast”. Stout or strong beer owes its origin to this old catholic rule for Lent. In former times monks and lords of the castle brewed a powerful bock beer to strengthen themselves for the 40 days of fasting leading up to Easter solemnities. In Bavaria, an extra-strength bock beer is immediately recognizable by the suffix ending in “ator”.

500ml Bottle - Dark brown with red tinges. Raisins, berries and caramel in the aroma. Rye bread, raisins, caramel and some forest fruits can be detected in the fruity, malty and moderately bitter taste.

Dark brownish. Aroma is sweet chesnut, caramel, some slightly burnt sugar, a bit of glasshouse. Taste is sweet caramel with bitter base and pistacchio finish. Not so balanced. Still rich and flavoured. Ok.

Bottled at Bar Central, Stockholm. Clear mahogany colour, mid sized head. Caramelly nose with some brown sugar. Sweet with medium-full body and rounded mouthfeel. Caramel and treacle. Long resinous bitter finish.

“Maxlrainer Jubilator“, Flasche (50 cl) von Grabsch, Berlin-Lichterfelde. - Tiefdunkles Kastanienrotbraun, klar. - In der Nase fülliges, gediegenes dunkles Malz mit feinen Röstnoten, Kakao, mild zitrusfruchtigem Einschlag und milde holzige Herbe. - Antrunk massiv dunkelmalzig mit schwerer Malztiefe, Bitterschokolade, Kakao, aufgelockert durch verhalten zitrusfruchtige Hopfenherbe. Mild rezent, weich und sehr schwer, fast ölig. Im Abgang komplexe, sehr aromatische Hopfenherbe mit Noten von Mokka, trockenem Kakao, roter Frucht und Vanille. - Famoser, enorm malzschwerer und runder doch komplexer, tiefgründiger Doppelbock. Ganz große Klasse! Besser geht es kaum noch.

Bottle, 500 ml from Pivoteka. shared with JFK10000. Pours brown, medium off white head. Nutty, malty, some caramel, some chocolate, sweetish, some fruit. Light bitterness in finish. Smooth. Medium bodied. Surprisingly good.

Dark ruby colored, medium creamy off white to beige head, nice lasting and lacing. Aroma is of malt, some caramel, bit of chocolate, lots of dried fruits, bready. Taste is medium+ sweet malt, caramel, dried fruits, bready, some chocolate, light+ bitterness, some alcohol and warmth, quite dry finish. Medium to full bodied, soft carbonation, creamy. Tap @4:20 (Rome). Caramel clear pour, medium ivory foam. Nose is chocolate, caramel, honey candy. Mouth is charming caramel, roast, barley.

Njemački doppelbock sa 7.5% alk. Obožavam ove doppelbockove. Velika količina alkohola se toliko i ne osjeti. Izvrsno je izbalansirana piva punog okusa i lijepog mirisa.

Pivoteka. Clear dark brown/bronze. Lasting off white head. Chocolate, grainy, full light maltiness. Cocoa pops. Malty, cocoa lighr alcohol, caramel, dry grain. Lean, smooth, not too full. Ok, clean. Sweetish. Not bad. Ends dry. Not bad. Don’t like the finish, otherwise quite nice.
