Many thanks to Erzengel for sharing! Pours almost black with a mid-sized good lasting beige head. Aroma of dark malt, red fruits, some caramel. Taste of dark red fruits, dry caramelish malt, some wood, interesting!

Pours a red brown colour with a small light tan head. Aroma is fruit and malt, dark berry and caramel. A sweet malty caramel taste with treacle, smoke and fruit flavours. Medium body, a dry lingering finish with some bitterness at the end.

Many thanks to Grumbo fro this bottle! Smooth malty dry beginning. Sessionable, round and intense. The malt is round, the body is fresh. Smooth mild in the aftertaste, smooth, mild caramel, moderate bitter. Nice English Ale, round and smooth. Sessionable! The hops are typical and fresh!

Bottle from Beers of Europe. Appearance - opaque black with a lovely fawn head. Nose - molasses, liquorice and caramel biscuits. Taste - smoke, tar and molasses. More caramel biscuits. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy yet crunchy texture and a long dry crunchy finish. Overall - enjoyable.

Hand-pulled cask pint in the ground floor of the Layton Rake (Wetherspoons), Blackpool on 9th Sep 2016. Deep, dark brown with a touch of ruby (in a bright light); on top a beige blanket of tight foam. Dark hedgerow fruits sit alongside a malt laden nose, taste is semi-sweet leading to a more bitter finish, dark berries within the flavours. Made a pleasant change to all the light citrusy flavoured beers I had been drinking earlier in the day.

Cask at the Paisley Beer Festival 2016. Pours clear dark brown with a thin white head. Aromas of toffee, caramel. Taste is sweet, nutty. Decent old ale.

Cask at the Golden Lion, Newmarket. Dark brown with hints of ruby. Translucent. A nice big beige head. Sweet and slightly smoky aroma. Not much there but what there is smells lovely. Sugary taste with a tannic note in the finish. The aftertaste has more of a bitter tinge. Surprisingly watery mouthfeel. Not one of Woodforde’s better recipes.

Looks like coca cola with a fine big tan head. Ok lacing. Bready, toffee and mild fruity aroma. Ok body and a decent soft-ish carbonation for a beer like this. Mellow sweetness and a moderate bitterness. Toffee, bready and some chocolate in the flavour. Nice ale.
