Test vom 15.4.2008, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: -,11,12,13,13,12 - 12,05

The bottle looks really good. In the glass a little bit turbid, a little bit sourish, dry, not really strong. Not a good beer.

Bottle (Diky, Bodensee): Moderate sweet-grainy nose, clear, golden with a white lacy head; solid sweet-bitter flavour, medium bodied; bisquity traces in the sweet-malty and hoppy finish with a increasing herbal bitterness in the aftertaste. A well rounded, very well drinkable Bock........

(bottle, thanks to Quack-Duck) Clear, greenish golden colour with a medium-sized foamy white head. Discreet aroma: medium-sweet, grainy malty nose with a tinge of honey and light spicy hoppy accents. Surprisingly bitter flavour, medium bodied with a pleasant, well-matured mouthfeel. Pale malty, grainy biscuity taste with a tinge of honey and pronounced herbal notes; well-rounded sweet and bitter finish with a good dash of herbal hops. Quaffable pale Bock.

Quite pale metallic gold with a medium, just lemonlike coloured dense & fine head. Bit of vanilla, CO² impression, freshly cut grass and alcohol. Seem to get some white sugar too. Reverting to freshly cut greenery and greenmalt. Quite alcoholic, even fortified by the cookies taste, then reverting to again a fresh greenery flavour; faint lemony, maybe by the CO² prickling, and a bit of German hops. Gradually, malt and alcohol sweetness build up. Short lived titillating sensation, every time softened by the malt and alcohol. Tastes more alcoholic than most Heller Böcke, and ends rather dry. Still, warming up the alcohol presence becomes a trifle oppressing, almondy. Less than typical Bock. Has a little Duvel-streak - or am I imagining this by the name? Txs to Sebastian.

(Bottle 50 cl) Already the fully golden colour signals a solid potent body. Head is pretty small though. Sweetish, malty feel, lots of alcohol and a rather bitter finish. Warming and well intended but not overly refined. These German pale bocks always remind me of a Carlsberg Elephant - for what it’s worth.... 240902
