Cask @ Castle Hotel, Manchester. Black with a creamy off-white head. Has a very light stout character with a palatably smooth texture. Its roasted malts are best in its nose, but bland in taste.

Cask @ JDW Montgomery’s Tower, Shrewsbury. Pours black, small tan head. Aroma is slightly sweet berries, some chocolate and coffee. Taste bears a curious plummy sweetness alongside chocolate, dark malts and caramel. Something not quite cohesive about it tho. Old maybe?

Cask at the Halfway House, Edinburgh. Pours black with tan head. Roasted coffee, licorice, bit smokey, sourish. Thin to medium body. There is a chance it wasn’t kept very well.

One of Orkney’s proud creations, a coffee- and chocolate-like stout with rich fruity notes (banana!) and soft and granular mouthfeel with a mouth-filling roasted bitterness that becomes stronger towards the - very long - finish. Great stout.
