Gold Medal Winner – English India Pale Ale or New Zealand India Pale Ale – 2021 Great American Beer Festival. The Island-Style IPA is an ale that delivers certain features of a hazy IPA (i.e. tropical, juicy), but finishes clear and crisp from the use of Cal Ale yeast. It’s loaded with an abundance of New Zealand and West Coast hops including Chinook, Citra, Comet, El Dorado, Mosaic, Motueka, and Waimea, giving the beer incredibly juicy, fruit-forward notes of pineapple, mango, stone fruit, citrus, and pine.

Sampled from the tap at Red Cow North Loop. Pours a clear gold with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has light pine and grass with a touch of papaya and light grains underlying. Flavor has more papaya and sweetgrass with a bit of tangerine backing.

Can from The Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours bright, clear, copper with a large foamy/creamy white head. Aroma of grapefruit and caramel. Med plus body. Flavor is grapefruit and caramel. Might be some melon and passion fruit. Or maybe pineapple. Juicy, yet rather dry. Very nice level of bitter. Might be a touch of zest.

Can. Amber beer with a cream head. Tropical fruit aroma with light grapefruit. Grapefruit and tropical fruit flavor with lightpine. medium bodied. Good bitterness. Grapefruit and tropical fruit linger with light pine.
