A Triple Dry Hopped Imperial IPA 26 years in the making

25 years ago we celebrated the 1st Anniversary of our fledgling brewery with a beer that was far away from the craft beer norms at the time. It was far too intense. It was far too hoppy and bitter. Yet it became the shot heard ‘round the world, and beer history was changed forever. We’re talking of course about our flagship Stone IPA. So, to celebrate the beer that (eventually) launched generations of hop fanatics, we present this imperial version of the beer that made our name among the (budding) craft beer legions. Loaded with gloriously bitter notes of piney, citrusy, resinous dankness, it’s everything we love about our classic West Coast style IPA…properly turned up to 11 25 for the occasion.

Poured up on tap at Stone Little Italy back in August. The draft beer exhibits a clear copper color with thin amber hues and supporting a near white head of foam. The modest aroma offers up thin ribbons on malts mingling with inviting citrus and a bubble or two of spicy hoppiness. The taste comes across smooth and fairly full across the palate. I get a pleasant spicy to grapefruit citrus hop bitterness flowing slowly toward a growing bitter hop pine sap sensation. The hops go together seamlessly and with the soft lightly sweet body this seems like it can be a formidable crusher of a beer. Love it.

Can clear medium orange amber pour with a a brief off white hread Light toasted malty and resinous aroma. Sme dried orange peal . Similar flavors, a lintel woodiness and a smooth but fairly robust piney hop burn. A smooth big IPA that is consistent with teir beig beers

The aromas are resin with a little bit of citrus and dry grass hops. Can is date stamped fresh but somehow the hops seem a little old.

Draught at City Pub. Pours clear copper with light tan head that sustains a throughout and patterns down glass nicely. Citrus, resins and dank aroma and flavor. Moderate bitterness.

Stone 26th Anniversary Imperial IPA 9.7% Beautiful clear copper gold with a thick giant beige rocky head of foam. The aroma is very dank verging on American barleywine territory. The taste is pretty good woodsy dank pine with an almost smokey finish. Super smooth mouthfeel even with the boozy heat.

Big bitter IPA. Perhaps a not as flavourful on the hops as some of their better IPAs but the body and sense is still there. Grapefruit and unripe pineapple. Booze and bark. Golden pour with

Typical Stone DIPA—not complaining—with a creamy, caramel-tinged sweetness couple with pine, grapefruit zest, and a strong, oily bitterness on the back end. Took them 26 years to brew an IPA that tastes like their other IPAs, but if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Tasty.

Can. Pours a very bright copper hue, almost reddish, a small white head. A really big citrus and berry nose. Big, sweet malts, strawberries, toast, caramel, medium bitterness. Very nice. Needs a bit more resin and bitterness for me, less sweetness. But very good.
