Shared this bottle with Inoven, Benzai and Roelzie1986. The colour is almond brown. The taste is sweet and has a hint of over ripe fruits.

Bottle shared by TomHendriksen @ random tasting. Lightly unclear dark orange color, average sized off-white head. Aroma is malts, hops, lightly overripe fruits. Tastes about the same: malts, hops, lightly caramel, overripe fruits, moderately bitter. Decent body and carbonation. Not bad.

Clear deep amber colour, tall frothy beige head, half-way lasting, heavy lacing. Aroma roasted malts, caramel, red fruits, grass. Flavour medium sweet and bitter, roasted malts, butterscotch, fruity. Bittersweet aftertaste, medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation, nice.

Finnish interpretation of the classic American amber ale style, historically an American version of Irish red but today coming in all forms and flavors. Bottle from Van Eetvelde in Lokeren, which has a number of different Stallhagen beers for sale at the moment (as a result of the fact that they are licensed to sell Stallhagen’s recreation of a historical Belgian beer). Medium thick and stable, off-white, regulary shaped, nicely lacing, moussy head over a deep, pure, coppery amber coloured beer with light mahogany hue, clear with very quiet, sparse fizz, turning lightly hazy and a shade darker with deposit. Aroma of butterscotch, dry cookies, spice nuts, pink grapefruit, candied orange, caramelized sugar, roses, toasted brown bread, roasted vegetables, dried mango, roasted peanuts, ’natural’ and undisturbing yet unmistakable iron, black pepper, gingerbread, hints of dried basil, honey and fried apple. Restrained dried fruit sweetness in the onset, some candied orange, dried red berries and dried banana with a ’silent’ and basic sourish undercurrent, medium carbo, lightly oily, supple, smooth mouthfeel, a tad resinous. Caramelly but, more than anything, very nutty malt body, a bit toasted in the end, bittersweet, lean, supporting a spicy, long, drying hop character with mild mango and grapefruit hints retronasally, peppery as well, with firm bittering power sufficient to balance out the initial - subdued - sweetishness. A nutty, toasted malt bittersweetness lingers along with a resinous, deep, long, peppery hop bitterness - in other words, bitterness gets the last word here. After their IPA last week, my expectations for this one were on the low side to be honest, but this is alright: it has the ’cleanness’, nutty and toasted maltiness and, eventually, long-lasting, spicy, aromatic hop bitterness one can expect from any ’ordinary’ American example of the style. The style as such is not my favorite to begin with, but this is a good, clean-cut and well-balanced example of it. I will recommend this to friends as a mere, but suitable introduction to the style, but I will equally recommend them to build up to the truly appealing examples if they like this, such as AleSmith’s My Bloody Valentine or Speakeasy’s Prohibition Ale, which clearly show more complexity and intensity. Nevertheless: enjoyable enough.

Mörkt bärnstensfärgad vätska med tjock och lite gulaktigt skum. Skön karamellig, kakig doft. Riktigt bra maltkropp med precis lagom mängd kavringssötma. Bra balanserad beska. En god US amber.

Orangebrun klar med høyt beige skum. Karamell, brød og lukt av kandissukker. Bittersøt smak, brent karamell. Den lette bitterheten sitter lenge.
