The Samson trademark was first registered in 1896. The first commercial brewing records date back to 1932, when Samson was launched by Vaux Breweries Ltd to quench the thirst of steelworkers on Teesside. In its heyday it sold 17 million pints per year.

Red-brown colour. Thick head. Warming malt aroma. Soft texture, very smooth and easy to drink. Flavour could do with a touch more bitterness.

Bottle Sainsburys. Reddish brown colour, thin lasting beige head, sweetish toffee malt but some hop. A bit heavy in mouth, bit over carbonated, fairly undemanding finish
