We often brew big pastry stouts with lots of flashy extras, but every now and then our brewer just needs to brew something simple, classic and delicious with no frills. Brown Paper Bag is a classic Oatmealt
Stout with just malt, oats, hops, yeast, and water. Lots of oats were added during the mash to help lend a silky smooth texture and copious amounts of dark and roasted malts for all those deep, dark notes. Fermented with English ale yeast this stout exudes lovely chocolate, malt, and fresh roasted coffee aromas and flavours. In fact it’s a bit like drinking an iced coffee but without getting the caffeine crash afterwards. The buzz you get drinking this lusciously smooth stout just lingers on and on.

440ml can from S43. Pours a black brown colour, with a bubbly beige foam head and aroma of malt, oats, chocolate, earthy. Taste is roasty malty, oats, smokey hint, with chocolate and coffee, dried fruits, and ashy earthy bitterness. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, drying roasted bitter finish. Nicely dirnkable.

Black with lasting thin head. Aroma and flavour have a grassy note. Behind that a nice bittersweet touch of chocolate.

Creamy light brown head on a dark brown body. Chocolate & fruity aroma. Medium bodied, smooth, creamy & thinner on the back leaving a cloying aft. Chocolate, malt, burnt & roasted malt tastes with a tangy plum finish. Nice drinker.

Medium greige head, foxy, over viscously pouring black beer with reddish reflections. Chocolate - very intense - caramel, chocolatebar with peanuts, arachidehint. Quite sweet nose. Quite bitter flavour, however. Again peanuts, making the finish more sweet. Again chocolate, chocolatemalt, but also oats - obvious in flavour and of course MF. Creamy, still quite well-carbonated. At least medium bodied. Quite acceptable, not too-strong stout.
